Kuamo'o-Nounou Trail

4.4 of 5
Mostly double track, some single track, techinical trail, rocks and exposed roots.
Summary: Not quite what I expected. I was hoping for a technical singletrack. The trail is actually a rather wide path with only the occasional roots or rocks. It's still a fast, fun rollercoaster ride. Just don't go expecting many technical challenges. I got lucky to have ridden it on a dry day,and combined it with the Moalepe Trail and Kuilau Ridge for a nice loop.

Very cool views of the wettest spot on earth!

Summary: Fun trail - I thought I was going to string together the three trails as described until I rode over a stick and snapped my derailleur hanger 100 yds short of the Moalepe trailhead. If you're a dry country rider, get used to mud and roots fast if you want to enjoy riding here.
Recommended Route: As described.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Powerline.

Summary: This is a great ride, I rode it in and out, middle ring trail, lots of rocks and exposed roots, not steep but lots of techinical areas, mostly double track, some single track, great views from the rest areas, recommend this ride even if you can't add on the above trails, fun fast ride, lots of canopy cover.
Recommended Route: Trail can be accessed from Kuamo'o Road 580 or from Kamalu Road 581. I recommend entering the trail head from Kuamo'o Road 580, exiting on Kamalu Road 581 and turning right onto Kamalu Road 581 to the end and turn left on Olohena Road and continue to the trail head of Moalepe Trail, ride Moalepe Trail to Kuilau Ridge and come down Kuilau Ridge to Kuamo'o Road 580 and back to your vehicle at the trail head to Kuamo'o-Nounou Trail. This will give you aprox a 12 mile ride (road and trail) Recommend you purchase John Alford's Mountain Biking the Hawaiian Islands, has lots of rides on the Islands, great book, www.bikehawaii.com
Other recommended trails in the same area: Add on Moalepe and Kuilau Ridge Trail for a nice ride.
