Pump Station

See "Augusta Canal Trail". Generally flat circuitous loop. Backside has detours that run out to the towpath and other routes. Very varied terrain. Very technical in spots, a lot of turns keeps the speed down. Soft packed dirt, some short but steep hills. Site of 1999 Georgia Games. A little bit of everything, except no long climbs. A few spots that could get you if you're going to fast and not familiar with it. You might want to shout out that you're coming down one of the blind turns along the river; it's not a lot of fun to crash into someone at the bottom of the apex, particularly since you could take a 20 ft.+ fall into the river. Not fun.

Trail Directions
Locate Augusta Canal towpath; find the train bridge @ the Eisenhower park entrance - NEXT TO THE PUMP STATION, and follow the path along the train track into the woods. Down the steps, entrance on the right. If you go in on the left, and take the first left after going in you'll go through the more technical aspects of it. To the right seems to be more common; when you come to a fork adjacent to the river take a right (white arrow) and you'll take the most technical path. This is the same trail listed as "Augusta Canal Trail" - which is confusing because a lot of people in Augusta think the canal tow path is "The Augusta Canal Trail"... That's what lamers, with their $2,000 full supension bikes that don't have a scratch or any dirt on them call the towpath. It's PUMP STATION.

Summary:
This is a fairly technical trail. Its a very narrow singletrack. Lots of short steep climbs and switchbacks. There a some good downhills but not much. I woundn't recomend this course to new riders.

Recommended Route:
While at the Augusta Pumphouse turn on the railroad tracks into the woods. Look for a small trail to the left and ride that down the stairs. Take either the red or white arrows. doesn't matter

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The Augusta Canal, Modoc, Horn Creek Trail, Tower Trail
