Lady Slipper Trail

Average Rating:    (2 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 5

Seven mile loop. Mostly single track with a one steep climb and a couple of fast descents. Trail needs some work to improve drainage; ruts in trail at some points, but downhills are pretty safe, with one tricky "butt on wheel" section.

Summary:
FORGET ABOUT IT. WORST TRAIL AROUND it is not a bad design. its just nobody rides it. It is washed out, overgrown, and has downed trees blocking the trails. if it got more traffic it would be decent.
but it doesnt dont waste your time.

Recommended Route:
go fishing at lake russell

Summary:
SORBA is doing a lot of work to add additional trails. This place has improved a lot over the last few months and getting better. Its also the site of the FIRST EVER Xterra Race (Off Road Triathlon) in Georgia on May 31. I've heard that they're going to make the ride pretty challenging... sign up on Active.com.

Recommended Route:
Lady Slipper, Red Mountain Road, and some of the hunting trails on the back side

Summary:
The Trail is a lot of fun, but not quite technical. There is a downhill/climb section that is totally washed out, impossible for a beginner rider for me. The rest of them are mostly on old road bed. I did the the loop twice but still did not get a good workout. Trail is not well-maintained, signs are not clear. I would say it is scenary, but not very impressive.

Recommended Route:
From Parking Lot, follow the sign to the hiking trail and go down some to the bottom of the dam, then cross the river on the bridge, make left when you climb up, start the trail there. You will do a long climb, then you will hit the gravel road, turn slightly left on gravel until you see the sign about a trail, make a left into the trail and follow the blue sign down to the loop

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stonewell Trail. Chicopee Woods, Bull Mountain

Summary:
After a steady climb made technical by horse steps and erosion gulch trail turns into woods (right turn) and traverses side of mountain on old road bed. The downhill section mentioned above comes up soon. Switchbacks, ruts (I endo'd after wedging front wheel in one last time here)leaves covering roots and rocks. Fun, rolling, technical. If you want buff, listen to sledge above. Trail is not ridden often so there is no buff "line." New blow down is always problematic. Part of the fun of this trail. No real long climbs or descents. But technical aspects or the lure of speed on more open sections keep you working the whole loop. All creek crossings are rideable but there are also bridges (I didn't even see em first time there). If you want the buff, social, parking lot poser scene, don't bother. If you like being out in the mountains, this trail rocks.

Recommended Route:
Counter clockwise when starting as directed above.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stonewall Trail, Tiger, GA. Chicopee, Oakwood.
