Gold Mine Loop

Average Rating:    (4.33 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 6

Good downhills and moderate climbs; some technical sections around the old goldmines; scenic viewing areas, abundant wildlife. Good curves and plenty of speed. Can be connected with other park bike trails for added distance.

Summary:
Trail is in good shape, had a lot of fun on this trail. Trail is not that long 6 or 7 miles, so if you are coming from a distance you better plan on riding some other local trails or riding numerous laps to make it worth the trip.

Recommended Route:
I started at the camp ground and did all the climbing first. Cross the road and have your fun back down to the parking lot. I then played around for awhile down by the lake and on some other trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
East West Loop in Ft Mountain. Bear Creek in Ellijay. Also, stop in at the bike shop in Ellijay, he was telling me about a 16 mile trail that runs from the top of Ft mountain to Bear Creek, I think it was called Pinhoti or something, unfortunately, I stopped in the bike shop at the end of my vacation, not the beginning.

Summary:
See Fort Mountain Review. Goldmine is the easiest of the 3 trails -- intermediate technical / advanced cardio. Started at the camping area and climbed the first 2 miles to the bike parking area and main trailhead (across the street). 3 - 4 miles of fast, sweeping trail -- no singletrack -- all in the middle chainring. You'll be 15-25 mph the whole time. This section absolutely rocks! Break off the Goldmine loop long enough to ride the East-West Trail to the top of Cohutta Mtn. When you get to the radio tower and power lines, hang a right and hang on for dear life for a 1/2-mile, double-black diamond descent. You have to schlog through some swamp at the very bottom, and you'll endo if you hit it hard the wrong way. 25 foot climb to the trail sign and it dumps you back onto Goldmine (across the street). You're done -- about 6 miles of serious training.

Recommended Route:
Fort Mountain State Park. Southeastern MTB Festival. Race Route.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Bull Mountain, Bear Creek, Carter's Lake

Summary:
This loop is very fast. If you rode it three or four times it would become wickedly fast. Nothing technical or difficult. An overall fun ride - especially if connected to other rides in the park.

Recommended Route:
This trail is one way - follow the signs.

Summary:
this is a great, fun, fast ride for all skill levels. There is only one steep, long climb, and the rest is just plain fun. The trails are well mantained, but be prepaired to pay the $2 per-biker charge to ride. This is to keep up the trails, which I must say they do a pretty good job of. nothing too technical on this trail, but it isn't easy, either. The best thing about this trail is the smooth, fast single and double track that seems to never end!

Recommended Route:
same as others
