Skidaway Trail (Not by the Aquarium)
2 reviews
 3.5 of 5

There are two major trails in this area and they are getting mixed up. The better of the two is not by the aquarium. I rode that one today and it was short and dumb. The one that Tyler posted about is single track, very lengthy, technical to a point, with the majority of its length snaking right beside the river in between skidaway island and wilmington island. It turns inland several times to take you to bridges over tidal inlets. Beautiful all around, with a lagoon at the start (on the left, you can see it on the map) that is a bird sanctuary. If would rate this right behind tom triplett park as the most fun in the area but number one for the nature and scenery. There is a lot of trail to run and you can spend hours exploring it. I forked right every chance I got until I ran up on the rode that go's to the aquarium and I took that back to my truck, I was bushed!

Summary:
Finally got out to this trailhead and to try it out.

This trail is definitely fun, and honestly could be longer if riders got together and did some trail work to it or even add some trail splitters to some jumps and teeters.

All single track, some recent storms knocked down some trees that cross the path that are impassable by bunny hopping. The trail is great for getting your turning skills practice in. Bring a backpack with a foldable fishing rod or camping equipment, a lot of areas to do an overnight camping if you wanted to.

Trail is in excellent condition and would recommend to anyone coming down to Savannah. If you don't want to do the 3+ miles on the highway back to the trailhead, do a 180 and loop back on the trail when you reach the portajohn in the woods.

Recommended Route:
Start at the trailhead and ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tom Triplett (When it is dry)
Rails to Trails on US-80 (18 miles of Flatland Cardio)

Summary:
Like the description says, its fun and pretty, bring your stamina because your pedaling and weaving around all the time. Theres plenty to explore and a couple good bluffs overlooking the river to throw down a picknick blanket.

Recommended Route:
Pay attention to the fork in the road! Okay so you come on to skidaway island via waters/whitfield/spur-204 whatever you want to call it. Pass the skidaway state park (on left), pass through stop light, take left at 4 way stop. Pass under golf cart bridge by landings entrance. Take RIGHT at the fork and drive until it dead ends into the river. Look to your left. The (slightly obscure) trail head is there with some cable across it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Historic Ogeechee River Canal (Hwy 204 and Bush Road)*parking fee
Skidaway State Park *parking fee
Tom Triplett (Also an Ogeechee River Canal Site)
Skidaway Trail @ Skidaway Aquarium (beginner level)

Look for a new review by me on the Canal at hwy 204!
