Tight technical, low elevation singletrack. Two main trails. 4 mile loop with small berms/climbs and very tight switchbacks. Second Part is currently (have yet to complete second loop) an out and back section, much more difficult than the main loop, short steep climbs starting off, then more tight rooty singletrack with a few moderate climbs, compared to rest of the trail.
Summary: About 4-5 miles of singletrack in the woods. Some sections are very tight with lots of switchbacks. The whole thing is pretty flat, as you would expect from a trail on the coast in southeastern Georgia. There is a short section called sheep hills, which is a couple small, steep hills in a short stretch. Also at the new trails there is supposed to be a 40 foot hill.
This is a great trail for whatever difficulty level. Rooks can come out and have a good time, and more experienced riders can just pick up the pace and have a great time too.
Every time I've ever been to these trails its been June/July, so I can't speak for the rest of the year, but this time of year the Golden Orb Spiders (Banana Spiders) are EVERYWHERE in the first 1/3 of the trails.
I'm really on the newer end of bike riding, so I don't know how this would rate on a difficulty level, but its a ton of fun, and parts of the trails are really very scenic if you care for that sort of thing.
Recommended Route: I'm not from Brunswick, but I bought my bike from Griffin Bike & Mower in downtown brunswick. Real stand-up guys. They were the ones that told us about the trails. If you go by I'm sure they'll give you a copy of the map and give you any updates on the trails.
Go into Blythe through the main entrance. Stay on the main road. When it forks, go to the left. The entrance is right behind the playground. There is a big sign with all the rules, etc. Go in through there. It'll start out doubletrack. There will be a sign on your left to where the real trails start. The first section is called Marsh Mellow. Make sure as you are on the first half of the trails, that when you exit back into the doubletrack, you take the trail on your right, not left (take back stretch, not hump de bump).
After you finish the first set of trails you can try out the new there-and-back section. Ride your bike back out as if you were leaving. You'll pass the pond on the right. Right before the trees start running along side the road, there will be a big telephone pole and you should see a little bike sign. Thats where the 2nd trail head is.

Summary: OK the rating level 3 for aerobic/technical may be misleading, but I didn't want anyone to think I didn't like these trails. They really are flat enough and easy enough that almost anyone can ride them. This is a great place to bring the kids, newbie, or whoever. The cool bit is that the trail flows well enough that if you ride at speed, you can get your aerobic work in. And these trails are tight enough that, even though they aren't difficult or inherently dangerous, at speed carelessness could leave you collarboned. I bet the local crew could light up any visitor in the twisty stuff.
Recommended Route: I was visiting from CT, talked to the shop guy at Benjies' Bikes at St. Simons. He gave flawless directions to and around the trails.Always ask the locals.[ thanks ]
Other recommended trails in the same area: There's this sandy quad-track place around a little pond in Darien that's just littered with animal bones that was kind of fun in a Land of the Lost meats Deliverance kind of way. Not so sure you should be askin' the locals about this one?
