Ridden Trail: Every few months

Cross Country Rider Summary: An extreme trail with many uphills, large roots, and almost every kind of technical aspect you can think of. This trail is HARD and will humble ANY rider. Recommended Route: Counterclockwise for the true feel, clockwise for better downhills.

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Cross Country Rider Summary: Selma Irwin is everything I like about riding in the woods. The loop is nice and narrow, real live singletrack, and takes you through a pretty hardwood forest. The climbs aren't long, but they are steep and frequent and made all the harder by the roots and rock gardens throughout. There is little cruising here, but a lot of descending with an eye on preserving momentum for the ever imminent pitch back up again. The descents all demand attention, the greatest example of which being a rock strewn set of switchbacks that I literally talked my way through step by step. I will definitely return to Selma Irwin. Recommended Route: The builders/maintainers suggest counterclockwise for better flow, but I see no reason why a lap one way and then the other wouldn't be fun. Instant 9 mile loop, right? Other recommended trails in the same area: In the Macon/Milledgeville area, Arrowhead is the closest analog, though Selma Irwin's climbs are far more likely to make the heart go boom.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Riding this trail weekly now. It has become my favorite. Most areas dry quickly but the roots are extremely slick when wet. Let some air out of your tires for a more comfortable ride and more traction. Recommended Route: counterclockwise

Cross Country Rider Summary: First time riding it was today. This trail is the one to do (so far that I can tell) if you want to develop your technical skills along with your lungs. This is a well designed trail which gives you some nice downhills at the start, then ups and downs in the middle. The ups by the way are leg burners cause they come right after the downs. The last mile (give or take) is a gradual climb out with some very nice technical sections, rocks, roots, off camber, and tight turns all at once. This is what a Mt. Bike trail should look and ride like. To bad it's not longer.
