Tatum Lead ATV Loop
3 reviews
 3.67 of 5

Start on a ridge. 1.8 Mi gravel road then double track to trail head then an ATV trail loops down & around the mountain and up the other side. Incredible technical downhill to right with a lot of rock of all sizes & great vistas scattered along the way, mostly rideable up (If you are Really REALLY fit!). I learned to keep my ass behind the barn and stick to the right brake after scoring a perfect 10 on the accidental front wheelie - face plant combo. There are two series of whoopdeedos for those in the airforce. If you are a beginner like I am who accidentally wanders onto this thing you will learn a lot.

Summary:
Went with a group of four with one riding for the first time in the woods. This was based on a recomendation from a mountain bike trail book saying that this was the perfect trail for beginers and leasure riding. Wrong. I've riden down creek beds with less rocks. The trail is good one for those with at least front suspension. A lot of good scenery but the only way to enjoy it is to stop and look. If you take your eyes off the road you're going down. Even if you decide to glance your vision is so blurry you can't make out too much. Long drive for such a short trail. The trail has plenty of ups and downs with all managable to climb. If you do take some one to this trail for their first ride make sure it's not someone who can beat you up. If they have enough strength left at the end that's what you'll get. I probably won't ride this trail again.

Recommended Route:
There and back, staying on the fire road.

Summary:
Nice Ride, This trail threw the book at me long, long, steep climb on the back half of the atv loop. Lots of rock gardens, a few banked turns, Whoop dee doos (some quite big). Pay attention to the cross roads leading to the atv loop. The sign pointing to the Forest Service road was mis-marked exiting the loop. Several FS roads converge at the cross road remember the one you came off of. If your a beginner you may want to sit this 15 miler out.

Recommended Route:
Forest Service Rd to ATV Loop (Clockwise)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Carter's Lake, Blankets Creek
