Weekend Warrior Summary: I think some of the previous reviewers are confused: There is a difference between the Rich Mountain Trail and the Stanley Gap trails. That being said, the Rich Mountain trail has always been a OHV road that went from Stanley Creek Rd to 515 (behind the rock quarry). Why anyone would want to ride that on a bike is beyond me! No matter, the gate is closed and I had the forest Service had went in and graded the whole thing.
Stanley Gap is alot of fun, though, and I highly reccomend riding it from the Aska side across to the Stanley Gap side (downhill is much more enjoyable). For a longer ride, ride the Flat Creek Loop counterclockwise then go across the gap. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bear Creek, Mountain Town, Pinhotti,Tansai, Chilhowee, Iron Mountain, Sumac Creek, etc,etc

Cross Country Rider Summary: This trail is TOUGH! Seriously... I was gasping for air after fifteen minutes, but my second wind carried me through. It's not very technical, but the aerobic difficulty is incredible. I didn't see another person the whole three hours I was out there.
THE DIRECTIONS ARE WRONG!!!
After turning on Cherry Log, go about a mile and take a LEFT onto ROCK CREEK ROAD. Follow Rock Creek Road onto gravel for about 4-5 miles until you see the trailhead parking on the left. Recommended Route: Just go up, then down, and turn around. If you have time, do the lower loop by the creek.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This trail is a workout. From the parking lot you go into a dizzying 2.5 mile climb followed by a 3 mile downhill. You are either going up or down because there is no flat on this trail. This is not for the faint of heart or out of shape. Great endurance builder. For the advanced rider, this is a great trail to keep your ego in check. Bring lots of water to replenish the tears you will be crying.
The trail has lots of rocks and roots. I took a good wipe on one of the short -n- steep downhill sections. Overall this was a very good training trail with beautiful views. Not very technical but that was ok - I was so tired that any tech might have killed me. Recommended Route: We got lost 5 times trying to find the place. Good luck. It's in the Rich Mountain state park. Other recommended trails in the same area: First ride in the Ellijay area. Looking forward to more.

, from marietta, GA Summary: This uphill is no joke. You will be about ready to turn around when you finally get to the top. The downhill is one of the best, (next to bear creek), and longest you will find. Do not attempt this trail after 4 oclock. if you're a real trooper, do the flat creek loop when you get to the bottom of the other side. Recommended Route: 575 N. Right at cherry log sign about 8 miles after ellijay. another right in a few hundred feet when the road comes to a T. Continue to trailhead about one half mile after the ranger station. Other recommended trails in the same area: bear creek, carters lake

, from Atlanta, Georgia Summary: Holy heavenly climb Batman! My friends and I thought we were getting in pretty good shape for a bunch of weekend riders until this one. We can do the 12-14 miles at Bull Mountain in 2-2.5 hours. No pros, but we keep a decent pace. But this was nuts. It took us 3.5 hours to do the 11 mile stretch from Deep Gap to Stanley Gap and back the same way. But it was well worth it. Incredible downhills. A little hairy since the trail just drops off on the side her and there. If you can't at least do 10 miles at Blankets Creek then I wouldn't suggest trying this one yet. But all the hard work is well worth the screaming downhills. Nice tight single tracks require a-lot of braking and bobbing and weaving. Very rocky and rooted. Definately for the advanced and in good shape riders. Or for those who like punishing themselves to improve their skills and stamina. Recommended Route: Deep Gap to Stanley Gap and back. Add the other trails if you want more distance. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bull Mtn., Helen to Unicoi, Carters Lake. Although some not really in the same area.
