new trail in Oconee County . Great ride pretty much something for everyone . I have only ridden it once , but it was very enjoyable and no traffic . The trail has a few minor uphills , some real fas downhills , a couple of creek crossings . Will ride again .
Summary: i've been riding this trail for 10 years. as my skill level and equipment have improved, so has my appreciation for this trail. compared to chicopee this trail is a lot more technical and three dimensional. there are lots of roots and rocks to negotiate, and some gnarly creek crossings. it's twisty all the way. wider bars may make it tough. you can get hurt out here if you're not careful, but this trail challenges you, and can be very rewarding. i see wildlife out here almost every ride. snakes, turtles, almost always deer, and once a bunny that refused to get out of my way!
Recommended Route: i do the red advanced trail, then the extra loop expert (orange) and back to red. it takes me 75 minutes. the orange adds a very challenging climb. short but steep and technical, and a corresponding technical downhill which ends with a sorta muddy creek crossing. there are two moderate climbs after that, one rocky and one rooty. the last 15 minutes consists of a sustained double track downhill ending in a creek that now has a bridge. but if you want a challenge the creek itself is a rooty, rocky, gnarly challenge. just past that you have a long double track climb to the parking lot, or you can veer off right into the woods and get some more bang for your buck. this last mini loop dumps you out at the top of the double track.
Other recommended trails in the same area: chicopee is probably the best and most comprehensive trail in the area. but this is a close second, and more rewarding from a technical standpoint. yargo is an ok ride, but not very technical. i mean you see families with young kids riding out there. nothing wrong with that, but that's an indication of the low skill level required.

Summary: A poorly maintained trail with serious erosion problems and low-hanging branches in all the worst places.
Recommended Route: Ride Fort Yargo instead. Heritage park has no redeeming qualities.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Fort Yargo is awesome compared to any trail system so I can't see why anyone would ride at Heritage Park instead.
Summary: I've ridden this trail hundreds of times over the last 10 yrs or so and it still is a blast each time. A new bypass of the very rough downhill, before the bridge before the climb to the landfill section, completed recently is excellent. Ride this trail backwards (counterclockwise) and you will work your ass off. Short intense aneorobic bursts to get over sharp roots, rocks , dropoffs will get you huffing and laughing at the same time. Clockwise is less difficult and allows you to flow. Don't forget to do the boy scout trail to the right of the trailhead as you are facing away from the highway. You must do the "expert" section. If you miss this you're missing half the fun.
Drawbacks: Oconee county locks the on site bathrooms. Guess they don't want to spend the $$ to clean them if they were open.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Ft. Yargo
Fast, Fun, Flowing, Aerobic. New sections added regularly. Bathrooms open . Friendly St. Park staff. Lots of riders to talk to at the parking area.

Summary: Follow the arrows and keep pedaling. This was a very refreshing ride with a little of everything. Everything like rocks and roots and creeks and bridges and woop de doos, etc. Very entertaining.
I really didn't know what to expect and it was a pleasant surprise. Everyone in my ride enjoyed it. Even the novice guy who kept screaming but then he would still clear whatever obstacle we had just covered.
I rated these a Four for technical and aerobic to say that if you want more you can just ride harder, faster and well you get me. If you want to take it easy then just Keep on Ridin'
Recommended Route: Follow the arrows and keep pedals spinning. I'm not sure what 'route' we took but we rode about 8 miles.
We only did one lap because we were on our way to meet folks in Athens for a wheelhopper ride. See Wheelhopper dot com for that info.
There we rode more but not on better trails. The Heritage loop was the main event for the trail portion of our show and the Athens ride was the mileage skit.
Other recommended trails in the same area: I wonder if Hard Labor Creek has trails or Bert Adams scout ranch. Surely there must be more out that way. I think the Oxford trails are there still too.

Summary: Nice trail. Much more technical than Conyers Oly course or FtYargo. Lots of roots, rocks and a couple of creek crossings. No real long climbs, descents or flats, the terrain is always changing, sometimes very quickly. Lots of gear shifting on this loop. Haven't ridden the "expert" sections yet, but I'm guessing if they are more challenging than the regular loop (which was used just prior to my visit for a race) they are pretty interesting. There are some "novice" side trails also.
Recommended Route: The intro for this trail says it's in Athens/Watkinsville, but it's pretty far south of Athens on the west side of U.S.441, actually closer to Madison.
