Gwinett Trail
12 reviews
 2.25 of 5

A loop around a lake. It used to be an old bmx trail, but a few of us mountain bikers fixed it up because it hadnt been used in a while. Some nice jumps. There are a couple of bridges over some water. They're not too study but we're going to fix that soon. Its not worth driving an hour to come to this trail. If you live in the Savannah area its a good trail for getting off road and if you want to go somewhere fast and cheap

Trail Directions
In Savannah, go west on Gwinett past MLK. You go through a small town called Carver Heights. Stay on Gwinett. You then pass underneath a bridge. Its the 516 highway bridge. Then it will be your first left. The road is called Lynes Rd. Go almost to the end. There will be a dirt road on the right hand side. Go all the way down the dirt road. There are a few parking spots near the lake where the tailhead is.

Summary:
Horrible condition. I tried riding it recently and the bike shop is correct. I didn't meet any hobos but the trail is practically indistiguishable from the woods. I would not recommend this trail to anyone, not even an enemy (hah!). Go to Triplett or Skidaway trails. They are in much better condition. Or better yet, go to FATS in South Carolina.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tom Triplett Community Park trail, Skidaway trail.

Summary:
The local bike shop suggested to not ride this trail alone due to the questionable characters in the area (hobos in the woods / gangstas on the way to the trail). Since I have not met any other mountain bikers in Savannah, I haven't visited the trail. Send me an email at vermontmtb@yahoo.com if you are a Savannah local and want to ride this trail and/or spend some time getting it back in shape. I can ride to this location from my house downtown, so I am very interested in this trail.

I wish i read the last review. It's true, it's true. I even stopped to talk to one of the hobos. Well at least I can say i attempted it. Nice try though.

Summary:
Well, I would have to say this trail is no more. When you get to the ghetto "trailhead" you can go left for about 30 yards then there is a enormus tree laying over the path. Then the path is gone after that. If you go the other way you make it half way around the lake and then it spits you out onto some train tracks. If you ride those for a while you can find the trail again and it takes you straight to a hobo land. Then the trail ends. hahah

Summary:
The trail was not lost to development. I just got off the trail, its not to bad, needs some grooming. For those who know the trail, most of the side trails that run off the main trail have been lost, but all bridges are sturdy. All in all there just needs to be more people riding this trail.
For beginner riders this trail is pretty technical, lots of sharp turns, and lots -o- roots.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
hunting island, skidaway, and tripplett
