Georgia Children's Home

Trailhead begins at the parking area at old abandoned home. Trail is very well marked by starting to the right of the pond. Trail is exceptionally beautiful is places. Approximately 2 miles of the trail flows through hardwood forests next to Rocky Creek and Wolf Creek. Trail is one for all types of riders (or hikers). The trail is as difficult as you want to make it. It is a trail that can accomodate alot of speed. However, it is recommended you take a moment to enjoy the scenery. Only thing to remember is to be respectful of all animals found on the grounds especially several domestic pigs which appear to have been released from a nearby farm. Always be respectful and mindful of the nature of the orphanage. Approximately 30 children live on these grounds. To use this facility you must be a member of P.O.W.E.R. (the Piedmont Outdoor Wildlife Environmental Resources, Inc.) This is per the request of the officials at the orphanage. Anyone is welcome to join for a minimal family fee of $15.00, and this can be done most effectively at Breakaway Cyclery or Bike Tech in Macon. If you have questions, feel free to call 912-741-9090.

Summary:
Another update on this trail. Over this summer large portions of the trail was altered due to logging activities on the property. Although it has changed and is in a little bit of disarray the local volunteers have done a great job of getting it rideable again. I was out there this past week and its back to being a very good trail.

Although the trail is near the hood it is actually surrounded by several upper middle class neighborhoods. If you live in Macon you will know that the hood is near almost every decent neighborhood until you get up near Monroe Co. I've never heard of anyone getting things stolen from them out there but I am sure like everwhere it has happened.

Summary:
Just wanted to post a current review so anyone new will know this place is ready to ride and doing well.

Trail has a little bit of everything with the exception of elevation.A 7 mile loop yields somewhere close to 300 feet of ascent.Very beginner friendly trail but if ridden fast enough even the most advanced rider can get inn a good work out.

Recommended Route:
Trail is very beginner friendly and marked fairly well. The most traditional direction is counter clock wise but is ridden in both directions. To access the counter clockwise direction go to the right of the pond from the parking lot.To ride clock wise go to the left of the pond.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
east Macon park.

Summary:
I thought it was a fun trail that allows for some nice speed in the trees on singletrack. Some tight sections, a couple steep sections, some roots, a few rocks. Great place to pick up some fast manuvering skills.

Summary:
Trail was nice, but I will NEVER go back there!!! Rode trails for about an hour & a half. Returned to find my car broken into. Too bad this trail is about 2 minutes from "the hood" because the trails were very nice. If you go, don't drive...

Recommended Route:
by foot or bike, not by car

Other recommended trails in the same area:
None
