Summary:
GREAT TRAIL! I rode the trail last weekend and it was a really awesome trail. Those who like FS roads and jeep trails this is the trail you've been looking for. Almost got hit by a band of outlaw dirtbikers at like 60 mph. watch out for ATV's and make your approach well known. No real danger. there was some amazing views on the trail. stop at one of the bridges on FS 28 to eat lunch over the streams. if you don't like climbing this trail isn't for you. if you like singletrack go somewhere else. If you're a big downhill fan...ride it opposite as how it's described in Off the Beaten Track Vol. 3. it's a very valuable book to mountain bikers. PICK ONE UP!
In all honesty this is a really nice trail. I suggest you ride it one weekend. OH!..And on the way to the park take 136 because it's a really nice scenic drive. i would also recommend route 136 to road cyclists.

Recommended Route:
as described in off the beaten track volume 3. if you like downhill ridge it the opposite way as described in the book. pick one up at the local bike shop... it's loaded with trails.

Summary:
This would be a good ride on a good day. On a day after a good rain, this is an excellent ride if you like getting dirty. If you find that one of your favorite trails is closed b/c of bad weather, give this one a try. Great mix of wide open straighaways but also some tough climbs, especially on slick mud. Also many great ruts, roots, stream crossings, rock jumps. My friend and I decided we didn't care what happened to us, so we went all out and got muddy, dirty, bloody....it rocked!

Recommended Route:
just stay on the forest service road (but also the side trails you come across are good)...start at the church parking lot.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Blankets Creek on Sixes Road in Holly Springs..great single track

Summary:
I can't believe there are only 7 reviews. This is the best ride in GA, and if I am the only one who knows about it, its a shame. Its rough forrest service roads, double track, and single track. The downhills are fun as crap with berms, and the rut at the bottom of Springer Mtn. is so fun that you'll walk up it to ride it again. Its National land, so its apparently not a problem to ride there. I see ATV'ers there, so go in the winter when all the 'necks are hung over and wont come out on their 4 wheelers, and even if its sloppy, its ok because its doubletrack and forrest service roads.
Take High Shoals out of the State park, past the church, cross two creeks, turn right on the single track just after the second stream, come out on the clearing, follow the road down the hill, at the second clearing go straight up into the woods through the rooty stuff, down the "Hill of Cathead death cookies", through the rut (praise God that you are still alive), right turn on the pavement, right turn on the gravel road, and get comfy, sit in on the 6 mile climb ahead of you to airplane crash hill. At the top of the hill turn right (parallel with the A.T.) and continue ahead on the dirt road. Left turn at the giant puddle, zoom back into the state park.
