Summary:
Trail is close the the Unicoi State Park. Good for a quick workout. Trail had some good climbs...not many rock and I did not find it to be all that technical. The loop went fast, if I had time could have done another loop or 2 no problem.

Recommended Route:
Go the way of the signs.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
have not ridden any others

Summary:
First time I've ridden this trail in almost 3 years. I can say it has recovered well from the previous storms that raked the area the past couple of years. Yes there is one bridge still washed out but you can easily cross the creek without getting too wet. Not sure why nobody has posted a review on this trail in over a year. It really is a great trail with some good climbs and the most spectacular view I have seen on a trail at the very top. Maybe people are trying to keep this trail a secret because I only saw one other biker even on an Oktoberfest weekend in Helen. It could be a little longer (it's close to 8 miles) but I've been told there are other trails in the area, I just haven't found them.

Recommended Route:
Started at Unicoi State Park where the Tennis Courts are. Also there is a Bike shop near the entrance to the Park. I beleive it's called Woody's.

Summary:
Lovely ride. Yes, the trail goes up and down. Yes, it is not perfect. Yes, you may get your feet wet or attacked by a rampaging pine beetle. Yes, yes, yes. I find that the joy of not seeing a single car or hearing traffic or having to remember what my next appointment is is Priceless.
We rode around the roads in Unicoi and looked at but did not climb back up the Trey Gap trail. Aww. Then we crossed the road and the creek into the Helen/Unicoi trails. You can ride around the creek, but who cares? Our group of 30 or so riders of all skill levels spread out along the trail like horse droppings. Some had to push the up hills and some slid down the steeper sections in full lock up.
No one cried. No one died, and a good time was had by all. To finish our ride, the hare had us cross the Chatahoochee with bikes in the air to get to some outdoor deck bar. Verry nizze. Spin Cycle and then Rinse Cycle.

Recommended Route:
Ride. Just shut up and ride. What I mean is that you can't go wrong. Enjoy. Yet, definitely pay at the Ranger Rick station. Better safe than totally foolish. Prepare to ride longer than you think. Theres more to do than it seems.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Check out the Trey Gap ride. Woody at Woodys Bike shop can fix you up with this.
He will also have directions to another set of trails across the "hooch". And he can save your ride when your ? goes out. On 356 on the left before Unicoi.
On On, Beavis

Summary:
I dropped the family off in Helen for a taste of Bavarian shopping in a southern tourist trap and I ventured to find this trail. Unfortunately the trailhead just outside of Helen on Chattahoochee St. was closed due to downed trees and washed out bridges from Hurricane Ivan. I had to hit a few outdoor shops to find an alternative and was finally directed to the Unicoi State Park Lodge on Route 356, I paid my dues, picked up a map, secured the racing number to my bars and was directed to the trailhead around the way from the lodge. The trail was shortened (washed out bridge over the creek)due to the ferocious storm that passed through the area in September 2004. Even though the trail is amputated until future maintenance can be done it is a great trail and worth the trip from Central Florida. I would have ridden it twice or three times if I had more time-but I had to meet the family back in "Switzerland", GA. There were only two downed trees and minimal mud, the weather had warmed up in the past week that made it a great ride (about 65F). The trail was well marked and clean with challenging climbs, fast downhills and a short sprint along the creek...tons of fun. I hope they can open the rest of it before the spring/summer season. Met my paople in Helen and hit "The Troll" which is a great place to have a cocktail along the river. Happy New Year!!!

Recommended Route:
I parked at the Unicoi parking area off 356 and rode clockwise around the three mile loop-do it twice (once each way) to change it up and get a longer ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Chicopee at the Elachee Nature Center in Gainesville, river loop and Bear Creek in Ellijay and Stonewall Falls in Clayton near the Chattooga. Come to Florida and ride Razorback in Ocala and Santos in Bellview.
