Cross Country Rider Summary: Wow I rode it today too, its amazing that I didnt see you. The snake told me that you better watch out next time!
Its true that the trail is a bit new, we need lots of people out there riding it. It seems a little more demanding than the original trail, but the debris on the trail was really thick, making it hard to keep up any momentum. It will be a nice roller coaster like Carters Lake when the trail gets worn in. Recommended Route: Go down the gravel road which is pretty rough in spots. You have to go in quite a way. After you see the entrance to White Twister on your left, look for a fork in the road, take a right and just ahead is a small parking area. On the bike, continue up the hill past the gate on the gravel road. Keep a sharp lookout for the trail entrance on your left, its only a couple of hundred feet and its easy to miss. Then get ready to climb.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Just got back from the new Stonewall trail. The first 7 miles is the new section which is a lot of up/down... it needs to mature but is a great trail. We clocked 11 miles, on 2 computers, from parking lot, back to parking lot, in 2 hours. Trail was slow today with alot of tree debris covering the entire trail, looks like some bad storms had passed through earlier. Oh, we did see the King snake.. it was sunning itself along with a turtle ! We plan to return for sure. Recommended Route: As Tunaphile said.. just head up the fire road from the parking lot, pass around the gate, trail starts on your left in about 200 feet. The four stream crossings are at the end.. water was very low today due to drought conditions in GA. Other recommended trails in the same area: White Twister is within 300 feet of the parking lot as well. Just head back out from the parking lot like your heading home, trail will be on your right with a large sign. This is a mature trail, nice to do after Stonewall trail.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This trail has just reopened in May 2007 and it's looking really good. You no longer climb the 2 miles up the fire road. You still park at the same second parking area and head up the fire road, but you turn left after only 0.2 miles and catch the singletrack there. It's about 8.5 miles around and you still cross the river 4 times at the end. Lots of short to medium climbs interspersed throughout, whereas before you did most of the climbing on the fire road. A couple of the short climbs in the new area are brutally steep. Be careful for snakes out there. I saw what I think was a king snake right in the middle of the trail and a local told me the have rattlers out there, although I can't verify that. I carry a snakebite kit just in case. In case you didn't know, the White Twister Trail is only .2 miles away so you could do them both together.
6/8/07 Recommended Route: Start up the fire road by the parking lot & go counter-clockwise at small green trail sign, marked "0.2". This will keep your feet dry for most of the trip, but they'll get wet in the last mile with 4 river crossings. Other recommended trails in the same area: White Twister is right there and it's a good bit shorter. You can make that 4-6 miles.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is for the person looking for info: The Stonewall Falls loop is closed. They (usfs) and probably SORBA are going to make a new trail in that area, but are waiting for all the red tape and stuff. Nobody as far as I know, knows when the trail will open back up. If I find out, I'll post again here. In the meantime the White Twister is good to go.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This trail has been devastated by the power co. avoid it at all costs! The first 5 miles are on a gravel road created for the heavy equipment placing high voltage power lines. At 5.2 miles the trail ceases to exist at a fence w/ no trespassing signs. Efforts to find the remnants of singletrack mentioned in the previous posts got us totally lost. After a lot of guessing we were lucky enough to happen upon a road. With some direction from a local we found our way back to the car after 5 miles on paved road, and 2 more on forrest road. The D.N.R. has not done a survey of the trail in some years, and the ranger we talked to had no idea the trail had been ruined. He stated they now might have to permanantly close this trail because of the damage. Recommended Route: Avoid this trail! Other recommended trails in the same area: White Twister
