I was hiking there yesterday and saw a couple Mountain Bikers including one that was talking to a ranger and a number of Mountain Bike Tread marks in the dirt. There did not seem to be any restrictions.

Pine Log WMA is a state lease Wildlige Management Area. They have completely closed the entire property to off road vehicles of any type except leg powered bikes during certain times and cars and trucks. FYI.

bad news folks, last I heard this area is now off limits to all "mechanized vehicles" which from the wording sounds to include mtb's. I'm not 100% sure of that, so check with the rangers to be sure.

Summary:
my house backs up to the old railroad and i ride out here quite a bit. so just a word of warning, there's not alot of traffic in Pine Log, so if you go, bring a buddy, or be prepared to crawl your way out if fate doesn't smile on you. also be careful of some of the "trails" ((old jeep roads maily))here, maintainance has been left to mother nature and some of the rain ruts can be up to 2 foot deep with silt and babyheads lining the bottom of them ((weee! endo fun)). other than those two warnings, Pine Log WMA is a blast to ride if you leave expectations at home and just try to hammer. not a lot of tech riding, just a some good climbing and bit of bike handling as you work around the rain ruts. there is however seemingly endless trails to ride, everything seems to connect to something else, but this is nearly 15,000 acres to get lost in, so BE SURE TO LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING! also be sure to check out the climb to radio tower at the north end of the WMA (take 411 north to East Valley road, turn right and follow it about a mile or so, the "trail"head" is on the right hand side of the road, altho it's not much more than a gravel access area for the service trucks with gate closing off the trail to other motrized vehicles) it's nothing but a doubletrack out and back climb up a gravel road, but there are some roads branching off as you get higher up the climb (i never rode them, so don't ask me where they go), and the ride back down is quite enjoyable...mmmm, nothing says fun like sliding thru an off-camber gravel corner @ 35 mph all in all, i'd say this is a beginner to advanced area, given which trails you ride and how hard and far you decide to go.

Recommended Route:
I-75 to US 411 N ((exit 293), go for about 4 miles north, turn right onto Stamp Creek road and follow it to the ranger office on the left hand side of the road((can't be missed))

i moved here in oct '98 and never tried any of the other trails in the area, i always got my bike jones taken care of here
