Cross Country Rider Summary: They paved it. Most of the good downhill, quick sections are gone now. There are still a few shreds of the more technical stuff lingering around the sides if you look for them. It's really kind of boring with a giant slab of concrete laid right down the middle though.

Weekend Warrior Summary: this trail is great if you just want to get out for an hour or two and don't have the time to leave the city. For the location, it is the best bang for the buck you are going to find. Recommended Route: do the entire loop over and over Other recommended trails in the same area: Yellow River

Weekend Warrior Summary: I decided to give this place a try since I live right on the out skirts of Decatur. I don't believe that I liked it that much because there isn't a good flow to the entire thing. Yes, you can cut and run all throughout the area, but it's not really laid out well for us that get the thrill of fast down hills, steep climbs, and truly technical areas such as the back side of the horse park. You can ride it and make it something if you are willing to spend the effort, but for the little distance it takes to get to GIHP, I would say go there.
Don't mean to sound negative about this trail but I am used to riding the Horse Park and Dauset Trail.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This is the best, most convenient trail system inside the perimeter. You can access the trail system 2 different ways.Bikes are allowed here,do not allow any hikers or dog walkers tell you different,if anything, the dogwalkers need to keep their dogs on a leash back there.Ride down 100ft to the rr tracks, cross the rr tracks.Head down the trail, cross the stone bridge and go to up the embankment to the left and start the loop there. You can also enter on Desmon Drive at the sign for Ira B. Melton park. 2-3 miles of singletrack back there with a decent jump and some sections are very rooted. This is why you bought a mountain bike!!!I thought the area was sketchy when I first went back there but I saw old ladies walking back there alone ,if that tells you anything. This place is great for keeping in shape for those weekend rides. Recommended Route: The main entrance is in the back of Mason Mill Park.Pass the tennis center and look for the dead end sign where the road seems to go downhill and the pavement ends. You will see a clearing down on the left next to the park rules sign.Ride down 100ft to the rr tracks, cross the rr tracks.Head down the trail, cross the stone bridge and go to up the embankment to the left and start the loop there. You can also enter on Desmon Drive at the sign for Ira B. Melton park. Not much of a park there but you will see ribbons tied to a tree there.follow that to a creek crossing, cross the creek and you are good to go.This enrtrance is in my neighborhood and very convenient. Other recommended trails in the same area: yellow river, big creek, both better but further out.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Great intown trail. I hated the first time I rode it, but it's so close I went back. The more I ride it the more I love it. There are lots of technical places to test yourself, and once you get the lay of the land you can find a great loop for yourself. If you come out to this place you need to give it a couple visits to really appreciate all it has to offer. Recommended Route: Stay left (over traintracks) once you cross the bridge take a left at the big intersection. follow until the first big valley and take another left to follow train tracks. Once trail turns, take first right into the woods, fly through this sectionback to the valley and start the climb. once you reach the top of the hill, fly down to original intersection near bridge and continue on the right fork. about 20 yards past bridge hang a left up the hill, follow trail around to the creek and ride along it for a while until short but technical hill takes you back to bridge. This is about 1.5 miles, but there are thousands of variations you can take along the way.
