Chehaw Park Trail
3 reviews
 2.67 of 5

Flat, TIGHT single track mixed with a long double track loop surrounding the woods that contain the single track. With the exception of a couple of sand pits, and very tight twisting trail, the ride is not challenging

Trail Directions
Enter Chehaw Park from Highway 91 north of Albany. Proceed toward the rear of the park. There are signs with arrows directing you toward the biking trail. Keep going, your aren't there until you see a sign that says "Parking Area" in a small clearing. Park here and follow the double track along the fence until you see a turn off. Note: all the single track eventually leads back to this loop road so you are never lost.

Summary:
well I saw possibilities, however, it is a long way from being a trail. I am pretty sure that I am the only one to go there this century. The lady at the park gate said ,"2 dollars please". she gave me a map of the park which showed the trails, but they wre over ground or very deep. I was just in Albany for the day. This place needs some help.

Summary:
Virtually any rider can handle this trail. It has NO climbs. It is in Albany GA after all. However, inspite of the lack of climbs and obstacles, this ride stays interesting in two ways. First, it is some of the tightest, twistiest single track I have encountered. Second, I encountered more wildlife on this trail than any other I have ever ridden. The trail is very twisty. It is too tight and twisty to carry much speed, but is a great place to work on steering agility. The designers have placed a few logs and pot holes to increase the challenge. But the only real challenge are the sudden sharp turns in tight woods. On the wildlife side, I saw dozens of Deer. I had a large squirrel jump out in front of me and "race" me down the trail for 50 yards or so. I encountered Bear (the park has a wild animal section, and for some reason a bear in a pin is not far off the trail). I also had a surprise armadillo encounter. As I was coming back to the car along the double track, he shot out right in front of me. I literally ran him over (I honestly couldn't avoid him), it sent him flipping through the air. He jumped right up and continued to scurry along seemingly unharmed. (No wonder there is so much armadillo street pizza!!!) I am rating this 4 stars to generate some interest. This is a three star ride at best in places with lots of trails, but this is IT for Albany. Considering the location, it is a terrific ride.

Recommended Route:
From the parking area, follow the double track along the fence. Take the first left and then look for single track on either side. There are several half to three quarter mile strectches of single track that tie into the double tracks. Keep looking, there are lots of single track sections mixed in.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I have asked about other trails in the area and have been told that there used to be one other trail around, but it is overgrown and out of service for lack of riders/maintenance.
