Tillie K Fowler Regional Park

Average Rating:    (2.68 of 5)

The south end of the park contains a small network of off road bike trails varying from beginner to advanced skill levels. The main loop is Whistling Kitty Chaser aka WKC, this is the beginner trail that is just over a mile. Branching off of WKC are the more advanced trails, these contain features from rollers and berms to steep ladder bridges. There are also multiuse trails on the northern parts of the property that are open to bikes but please be courteous and yield to people walking those trails. All of the bike trails are signed to indicate the required skill levels, please do not ride over your limits. Overall the park is a great place to take the family or go on a quick afterwork ride.

SORBAJax has taken ownership in the maintenance and construction of the trails and is continuing to improve the park. To get more information or a current map and find out about trail work days vist https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/sorbajax/.

Summary:
Haven't been here in over a year and the trail is MUCH improved! Would have rated it about a 2-3/10 last time I rode it, now would give it a solid 5-6/10. Really nice features (wood/berm) built up now and the trail was flowing pretty nicely. I only live 10 minutes away, so it's definitely worth the drive, but if I was more than 30 minutes away I would likely check another trail out

Great updates and work guys! If you haven't been recently, definitely worth a quick 1 hour ride or so.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
-Graham Swamp/Malacompra (awesome trails!)
-Ft Clinch

Summary:
Road here for the first time today. Parked at the playground area and road down to the tower trail and island trail. I just moved to town from the north Georgia area and obviously you get spoiled up there with all the great trails. That being said, this is a solid, fun trail to ride for exercise and to keep your skills sharp. Aerobically not the most challenging but you can always do multiple loops! Most of the trail is tight single track with a lot of switch back turns and a few tricky areas. The advanced area on the "Off Road Mountain Bike Trail" is advanced! Its a short section but is not for the newbie.

Recommended Route:
Warm up with tower trail and island trail and then head up to the off road mountain bike trail near the park entrance. Don't forget to check out the view from the tower.

Update - June 2013 - After riding here almost daily for a month now I feel that I can be a bit more specific. The island trail is a swamp and is hardly ever rideable. I skip it most days if it has rained in the recent past. The Tower Trail is great for a warm up and actually has some single track spur trails if you look carefully. Watch out for people walking though. The ORB trail is the best of the three and is a lot of fun. That is, until this weekend when I'm guessin SORBA - Jax rerouted the place. Now instead of a short 1.5 mile trail with good flow, you have been rerouted at the 3/4 mile mark in to a seemingly never ending series of switch backs through a hammock in the forest. I swear, you never go more than 30 feet before you are making a switch back turn and going in and out of an old creek bed. I appreciate the effort but they have completely mucked up a decent little trail. To make matters worse, they have closed the out route with a fence so you have to ride the new route. Its so soft and slow. Its like riding on the beach without the fun. RIP ORB trail

That new section isn't done, so hang in there, it will get better. You forgot to mention that the "mucking" added an additional .75 miles to a 1.5 mile trail system. There is also an easier bypass around it on the main loop if you don't want to ride that new trail. Anyway, keep and eye out for the next workday, get involved and make your opinion heard!

I need to apologize to Acme54321 and the rest of SORBA Jax. The work they have done is great! The new route is not bad at all and in case you want to skip it, you have a chance now. I still disagree that you can ride any direction at any given time. I think someone will get hurt and then it will go to a daily direction type of system. I ride there almost daily so if you see a guy with a bright helmet, say hi.

Summary:
Rode this trail couple weeks ago, lack of starting point mark (i.e.- where trail begins to stay in synch with trail markers), good ride with tight turns clean trail, buried roots will come without notice wooohoooooo, has a old fire brick road (slick after rain), but allows for nice speed sprint, also has one quick and drop-down hill, trail is pretty well marked other than fore mentioned marker.......over all good ride to pump the blood.

Look for this to expand.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Jacksonville/ Baldwin trail................good ride, mostly hard asphalt good road and cruiser bike ride.

Summary:
SorbaJax is working with the City and Navy to keep up the trails. Currently about 5.5 miles of approved trail. The Main biking trail is marked with red arrows. The Island Loop has been marked with real signs by the city.

Should be seeing some improvements to this park in 2012.
