Mad Trials

Average Rating:    (2.75 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 8

Tons of serious jumps, downhills, kickers, and bridges. There are also shovels out there to build up or dig down obstacles. Spent 4 hours just exploring and playing around on my first visit. Highly technical although there are a few trails for noobies. Some trails are overgrown with thorns so be careful. Helmets are a must as there are some serious rocks and hidden tree stumps. More of a biking area as most trails are overlapping. Trail length is the length of the little trails added up together. Overall, the best trail I''ve been through thus far.

Summary:
No longer there.

The trails have been completely bull dozed. All of the drop-ins and walls have been knocked down. Looks like they're making room for the Butler Plaza expansion that was recently given the OK.

Recommended Route:
Don't bother

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Trails that wrap around Cabana Beach apartments, the bore holes behind the dog park.

Summary:
Multiple option Dirtjumps, light freeride, Wallrides. Some lines offer as many as 7 jumps in a row. Was owned by Butler and up for grabs when he died with out a will. Rumor has it that a land action meeting was held and development may be underway. Several parties are trying to push for legitimizing these trails against the former credo of secrecy. An informal petition is posted on the Rollin (20 signitures so far)and the City and county have been contacted concerning the lands unique soil structure and wildlife preservation.
The newest construction looks better than ever and these guys are planning on getting this place up to par better than ever in hopes of getting the city behind it. Diggers Welcome. Skilled Graf artists needed.
The original trails are said to be 15 years old. Gainesville has no clay hills like this and this should be preserved under the credit for open space and park dedication act.
I first saw this place five years ago and many generations of riders have put in a lot of work. The closer and more iminant losing them gets the more people fix stuff up out there.
Cops have been cool so far as long as you're not squatting.
I've been against legalizing these trails for ages but, I can't bear to see them get torn down when they look so good now. Check them out while you can and have a say.
Do we need another shopping center?

Summary:
I havent really rode many of the trails here but the Dirt jump area is tits. It was overgrown and in poor shape for a while, but in the last 3 months or so it has really been built up.

Recommended Route:
The way I normally get there:
My Girlfriend lives in Windmeadows (behind lowes/outback/butler plaza/etc) so i park there. From the windmeadows parking lot there is a small trail that cuts through to a limestone road. Once you get to the road, turn left (west) and ride for less than about a half mileand you will turn left in between two fence posts. Its pretty well worn so you will see where to turn. From there you will see the beginning of the jumps and stuff, go check it out.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Santos in Ocala, San Felasco for a peaceful singletrack ride
