Lovers Key Carl E. Johnson State Park

At this state park after a hot ride take a dip nearby in the Gulf. The park is better known for its water sports, but nice scenic trails.

Two dirt loops -- about six miles in total distance -- of flat riding. Prefer trip along man-made canal and through mangroves.

Many birds and conoes sighted along the way.

Several Gumbo Limbo trees along mangrove swamps --- often referred to as the "tourist tree" because bark turns bright red and peels.

As the intro describes, this is a nature trail, not really a mountain bike trail. There is a slight incline on one of the two trails, but mostly flat riding - some roots and rocks. None the less, it is a nice scenic ride along waterways (not canals). The park is a group of islands, all natural, and undeveloped, so you'll see manatees, ospreys, eagles, turtles, snakes, etc. They are about half-shaded. My wife (not a mtb rider) and I vacation near there once a year, and we ride through the park every day. The gulf beach is beautiful, and always nearly deserted. Not exactly a heavy riding experience, but really nice.

Recommended Route:
Two trails, take your pick - you can do them in any order.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Don't know the area, I usually ride at Amelia in Miami.
