Chuck Lennon Park Trail

Average Rating:    (4.08 of 5)

Brand new trail. Has a good XC trail with lots of up and downs and fast decents. Even a teeter-totter, and a few ramps. XC trail is well marked and flows in one direction. There is also a small Bowl Section with a few jumps and places to break your neck if you are so inclined.

Summary:
I usually ride Santos trails here in Ocala. Decided to give Chuck Lennon a try and was I impressed. With 5.7 miles of trails your not in for a all-day ride but it will be a fun few hours(you will want to ride them at least twice). The ups-and-downs make for some exciting and challenging trails. Follow the path given on previous reviews and use the central hub as a meet-up point.

Summary:
Decided to ship my bike to Florida from Michigan for my week long visit, so I could sample some Florida XC. I rode Spruce Creek a few days earlier and was hoping that Chuck Lennon would not have as much sand and roots. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find almost no sand and the roots were sparce enough to make them fun when encountered. The entire trail was a blast to ride! Lots of twisty stuff, fun ups & downs, and plenty of technical bits to keep your attention locked on the trail. It's a good thing I was visiting during a dry spell as I can easily see how some of the trail could be extremely slippery where the clay hardpack stuff was. Water and clay make for a bad day.

Recommended Route:
I followed the recommended route mentioned below....Hoot Owl (blue) to Red Panther (red) to Screaming Hawk (yellow) to Racoon Run (green). Red Panter and Racoon Run were loads of fun and exciting with lots of technical challenges. Screaming Hawk reminded me somewhat of Michigan trails, fast and winding. Hoot Owl was a "hoot" as it had smaller samples of what would follow on the other routes.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The other trail I road was Spruce Creek. It was much less "fun" in respect to technical stuff, but was a good taste of Florida coastal trails. A bit sandy for my taste.

Summary:
This is a hidden gem that every rider needs to experience. Volunteers have lengthened the trail to over 5.5 miles and has been marked very well. It's a hard packed trail with very little sandy spots but can get a little muddy during the wet season. It has a fast flow to it with steep ups and downs along with some hair pin turns. The free rides and jump bowl areas are small be can be pretty fun. I think this is one of the most fun trails to ride in central FL now.

Recommended Route:
At the trail head take Hoot Owl trail to the central hub and then Red Panther to Screaming Hawk and finally Raccoon Run that exits you back to the parking lot. That will give you the full 5.5 miles of trails.

Summary:

this is a fun trail
Cross Country trail is now up to 5 miles long, south end is harder than the north. very good blend of intermediate technical to open woods xc. the north end should be ride-able in the wet season, the South end because of its low elevations and clay is best in the dry season.
Additional trails in the freeride and conector areas
