The Rock Trail
10 reviews
 4.2 of 5

Trail starts with some ups and downs with one steep drop. Then it climbs a dirt road before it goes into the woods for several miles of twisty singletrack. There are some open areas with a good grassy climb. This is a new trail and more singletrack will be added in the near future.

Summary:
Very nice trail, rode it on 4/12/09, conditions were great. I clocked a total of 5.5 miles around once. This would be a good lower-intermediate/upper beginner trail, not too aerobically demanding, medium technical level, anything scary has an easy way around. Towards the end, you make a gentle climb thru a meadow to a group of trees, the downhill from here (at least 1/4 mile) is truly worth the trip out to this trail. Otherwise, the trail goes through a mostly flat forest, lots of trees, with good sight lines ahead.

Recommended Route:
Found the trail easily with the dirctions supplied on this site. Look for the big "The Rock" (church) sign, park behind it. See my photo album for a picture.
On the trail, there are only three areas that could use some more marking: about 1/3 of a mile in, in the gulley, trails crisscross, was hard to find the right one out (head away from the road sounds). About a mile in, you go behind a private home (big green RV in the back), trail forks. Stay to the left and you'll see the trail continue after the next corner. Note there were a lot of pink plastic ribbons on the trees and some survey stakes in this area - ignore them, they don't mark the trail. Also at 3.3 miles, on a dirt road, the road forks also, one going hard to the left. Stay straight on here.

Did Santos the next day, had a blast!

Summary:
This is a fantastic trail! It has something for almost all skill levels, and is a great aerobic workout. Trail starts fairly easily, but semi narrow, then gets to some difficult technical stuff with some good climbs and drops. One REALLY big drop. Then it's mainly an aerobic trail up a dirt road to some singletrack. All in all a great place, and I will be going back at least once a week here.

Summary:
The best trail you will find around Gainesville without making the drive to Santos. Good use of sink holes to make for some good steep ups and downs, even a couple of small jumps. Like everyone else said, there is more intermediate/expert stuff at the start, then pretty easy single track in a big loop around the property, with good technical bits (even some bridges). Much more interesting than San Felasco, but the scenery isn't as beautiful. Thanks to The Rock for supplying the land, and whoever made the trails, Good work!

San Felasco, Santos

Summary:
This is a really nice little trail with just about everything. Some good steep stuff in the beginning and a real heart pounding climb at the end.

Recommended Route:
Take the trail to the right. It can be a little hard to see on your first visit. I got lost my first time and finally found the trail head.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Power lines used to be great until they ran us off. I would say Razorback and Santos are the next best.

Summary:
Nice hard packed single trail with lots of twists and turns. You can push yourself and get a good workout while having fun. I just discovered this trail a few weeks ago and am very pleased to have a decent place to ride right in town.

Recommended Route:
Ride the loop either way. The trail starts in the far back right corner of the property. Look for an arrow in the trees.
