Croom State Forest

Floridas longest contiguous bicycle single-track officially opened March 1997, as the Withlacoochee

Forest - Croom Off-Road Bike Trail. This network of single-track forms two loops of 12 and 35 miles.

Actual trail length, including connectors, is over 55 miles. Trails consist of Florida uplands, sweeping cross country trails (wooded and open) to abandoned mines and challenging pits and drop-offs. Check kiosks sites for trail maps

Summary:
Go to Afafia or Boyette....it's worth the gas. Croom is nice just to get out and enjoy nature but it is nowhere near the caliber of an Alafia or Santos. Plus, LOOK OUT FOR THE SANDSPURS!!! gotta a flat the first time i went there. Tons of sugar sand. :(

Summary:
Love trying out new places. I ended up here because a friend had an adventure race in the same park earlier that day. There is a lot of trail here. Its not one of those something for everyone places. It’s also not of the caliber of any of the big parks (Alafia, Santos, Markham, and Oleta). What is there is a tons-o-cross country. I'm sure when the conditions are right then this a great place to fly threw and clear 30+ miles in one day. Right now its about 70% fun and 30% sugar sand. The sugar sand is thick in places. Most of it can be cranked threw with out having to get off and walk. It will make you strong but it’s not to fun. Where the sugar sand was not a problem it was a great easy XC trail.

Recommended Route:
The connector trails are bad. They are not maintained to the level of the actual bike trails. I would recommend either doing the entire yellow or entire blue trails with out using the bailout or access trails

Summary:
Many miles (55!) of twisty singletrack goodness. There are many miles of narrow dense forest, and some open yet very flowy. There is some slightly technical, and overall good variety. Signage and trails are excellent, thanks to the SWAMP mtb club who maintain!
This NYer continually has a blast there!
As a plus, you can also send the family out on a nearby paved rail trail.

Recommended Route:
Follow the well marked signs.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Boyette, Alafia, Croom, Carter Road.

Summary:
This is a fun area thats great to log lots of miles and generally get away from it all. Unlike most parks around here, Croom actually lets you feel like your in the middle of no where, and not just some park with houses surrounding it. In a short summary, think Santos meets flatwoods. Its not particularly technical and there is a fair bit of elevation change, theres a little bit of tight winding trail thats reminiscent of flatwoods but not enough to where you can just haul A$$

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Everything.

Summary:
Covered trails great for beatign the summer heat.

The big problem with this trail is that it is one public land that is also used as a hunting area. So there are months where you cant ride at all, then there are those where you can ride if you don't mind rednecks with guns running around popping off shots at squirrels.

That said, the trail flows smoothly. I prefer the trails to flatwoods. But the recent moto activity had kind of messed up the trails a bit. Not a fantastic place, but a solid alternative to Flatwoods for pure XC riding.

Recommended Route:
Theyre all the same

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Razorback, Santos, and Alafai are all technical rides within an hour drive. Flatwoods and Boyette are XC rides within an hour drive, as well.
