Anderson Springs

Fairly new trail - has not seen much riding. Follow the pink tree ties. Mostly singletrack through woods and along the bluffs of the Suwannee river. 1st half is pretty technical with a few fun sinkhole drop-ins, 2nd half along the river is fast and undulating with a welcome dip in the spring waiting for you at the end

Ridden Trail:
Every few months

Summary:
This trail could be one of the best in the state with some more traffic. I've experienced the spiders to, but if it's rained recently they'll all be down. It's hard to give a detailed direction without a map. Just go explore, it's beautiful woods. You can't really get lost, there's not that much property. The rivers on one side and River Rd on the other. More climbing than you realize the first or second time you ride it. Quick drops and climbs with suddle steady climbs mixed in. Heading west on I10 exit on Hwy 90 west of Live Oak. Take 90 west (turn left) until right before the Agriculture check station (5mi?, right after the entrance to the Suwannee River Park, if you cross the river you went too far), turn left on River Rd, go till you cross I10 again and you'll see the sign for Anderson Springs in just a bit. Oh yeah, nothings better than a dip in the Springs after a ride in the summer. Most of the trail can be ridden beginners, however, to really enjoy it you need some endurance and skill.

Recommended Route:
Start at Anderson Springs and ride out. Do one of two (or both) options at far end and ride back to Springs. About 13 miles of sweet singletrack when you ride it all. Go straight across the road at the picnic table (mi 4.5?) When you come out onto the doubletrack, (option 1:) turning right takes you back to the river via a doubletrack for an out and back on more singletrack on the bluffs (go left at the campsite to find trail), (option 2:) turning left and then right on the road just after the chain, you'll find a new trail that's more technical over small berms with quick up and downs. Ride this as an out and back. When you get back to the beginning of this section turn right and head back to the picnic table where you take another right to head back to Anderson Springs.

Summary:
Typical River Trail. Runs along side of suwanee river, kinda flat, kinda soft. Could have been fun if we weren't the first riders there, but going through the Virgin Trail, we hit HUGE bananna spiders every 30 to 50 feet. I tried my best to ignore them and keep riding, but they crawl right up to my ear and face. EECH.. And the web just wraps you up. Used a stick held out in front for a while, helped a little bit. At almost the exact time we decided we couldn't take the critters. We turned around for our spiderweb free ride back. Before I got both feet in my pedals it began to rain fast and hard. I am kinda torn about this experience, In retrospect I enjoyed riding fast through the vegetation and rain. It was kinda exhillerating. The soaked leaves and branches brushing and the rain itself. In fact I think I would have been a little bored going back if it wasn't for the rain.

Bottom line, if you have problems with spiders.s. don't go until you are sure someone has gone before you that day. Otherwise it is a decent trail that is has good river scenery and nice densly wooded single track.

Recommended Route:
Along river
