Roosevelt Forest

Average Rating:    (3 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

Some fire roads, rooty and rocky single track, power lines, minor elevation change, short power climbs, well marked trails, a catwalk section and some boy scout huts to play around with. Start off to the right of the picnic building and go straight through the power line intersection to the other side of the forest and then turn left at the next single track. Then play around, you can't get lost. You'll evenutally spill out to the paved road you came in on but keep an eye out for the green trail entrance on the right.

Summary:
rode today, no snow. lots of exposed granite and glacial till = nice drops all around, too bad theres not a trail linking them. Not big, but lots to play on. Parked on some dead end in the area, no problem.

Recommended Route:
anywhere you see exposed rock, other trails are very easy.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
quinlan reservoir

Summary:
This is a local short cross country ride. Park parking lot closes at 4pm sharp, believe me they will close the gate on you.

Recommended Route:
Start out to the left of the pcinic area and bear right. Go across power lines and then take a left. Stay as far to the outside of the park as possible and then mkae your way inward. You should eventually make your way out to the paved road that led you into the parking lot. Keep an eye out for another trail head on your right, do that trail, you will eventually come out to a bunch of huts. Keep exploring, there is a catwalk in there and other stuff to play on.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pequonnock in Trumbull is the trail around here that is worth driving to from anywhere. Otherwise, Mianus in Greenwich, Wilton Woods and West Rock in New Haven are 3 places that are fairly distinct from one another that you can try.
