Middlesex College Trails

Average Rating:    (4.67 of 5)

Many trails to choose from, very techical singletrack, powerlines, dirtbike tracks, every possible obstacle, can be very confusing, not well mapped out, and you can end up 10 miles south in Higganum if you dont pay attention. There are lots of trails for beginners, intermediates, and advanced riders. If you want to go on a group ride, you can always check out Pedal Power in downtown Middletown, the owners usually take groups out, or during the summer season, there are always plenty of riders out there. Basically, any kind of ride you can think of in the northeast is out there.

Summary:
Even though this trail is very poorly marked and it's easy to get lost, it is totally fun! After several bloody knees, scabs on the elbows, and a trip over the bars, I came out of it feeling like more of a man. Very rocky; very rooty; good drainage; very respectable climbs; quick descents--both wide and open and tigth and twisty with several drop-offs. Give yourself time and make sure you've got a map and this trail is absolutely wonderful. The only thing I wish it had was more elevation gain and longer climbs. But...I can't complain about this trail. Get out there!

Recommended Route:
Hard to say...the trails are poorly marked.

Summary:
Middlesex is great. If you talk to the guys at pedal power they will hokk you up w/directions. also during the spring summer and fall there are tuesday rides at like 6:30, and night rides at the same time towards the beginning of winter. lots of short steep climbs, but also a lot of ripping singletrack. there is a part where dirtbike riders go, and it can be interesting, but the jungle is still the best. plan on an all day trip to get the ful experience. there are so many trails that riding one or two just wont do.

Recommended Route:
go to pedal power, its a great shop, and they wil tell you how to get there

Summary:
Numerous trails here with excellent riding. Bikerag.com has good map.
Take trails to south, directly across from gravel road at gate. Many trails here, easy to get lost/confused but worth the trip. Slickrock galore with lots of technical ups and downs. Ride to Chinese Wall
for a serious scare. Just be sure to hug the tree side of this narrow strip of rock for if you fall off you're dead for sure.

Recommended Route:
Exit 11 of route 9, right off ramp to light at top of hill. Instead of straight to M. College - take right.
Go straight throught first light and take next left.
Left at fork and then right. Park on gravel road on left.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Westwoods, Cockaponset in Chester

Summary:
Very complicated layout but nonetheless very fun. Print a map from bikerag.com or at least be with a group for the first couple rides. The trails range a lot, basically the best in lower CT. Not the easiest but still very few hiking points, some great views of Cockoponset etc. Hours of fun here!

Recommended Route:
As others have said, follow to community college and take dirt road, park at small intersection near main trail gate.
