Good singletrack, windy and wooded. Some good climbs and descents capped off by a nice descent down Southington mountain.
Summary: This is where I got my legs for biking. Back in the day for BMX I would sprint as much of 'Willis Street' as possible. I later found MTNB fun at the top. These are GREAT trails and you can find enormous variances each time ridden with a quick change of direction. It's fast in the choppy, rough parts; thats what it takes to enjoy my rides. I did these areas back with a best friend with full riigid bikes in the mid to late ninties. I'm now on a 'Black Diamond' HT but have not lost my full rigid inclinations!!! Just find a set of GOOD beater tires and DO RIDE up Willis Street ya' BONEHEADS!!!!
Recommended Route: Either park where 'Grossmans' used to be and follow South Street to Willis Street and ride on up, or drive to Willis Street top, and park either near the boat launch on R before fork, or if you are neat and clean, go straight at fork and park at ride away. Just wander in and hang on!!! You will find the bottom, either with the Ski Mountain (Southington), to which you just have to go left on road to find South Street (five miles) or go back up from Mountain bailout apx. 2/3 up on left from bottom.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Nepaug in New Hartford. Nasaheegan in Burlington. Cockaponset off of Route Nine near Haddam. Penwood in Stafford Springs. Bluff Point near the UnderSea Warfare Center, and Arcadia in Rhode Island.

Summary: Some O.K. riding can be found here. Lots of fire roads, double track and some steep singletrack with slick-rock-ish sections. Hike-a bike is inevitable, unless you ride car to car or your first name is Lance. The Blue dot sections are pretty good, but most of the trails have been ruined by mx'ers. Some decent riding along the ridge and the resivour wash is cool but not worth the trip. Although i enjoyed my 13+ mile adventure, it will be unlikely that I will return.
Recommended Route: Park at Alcott School off Woodtick road and enter by powerlines. Or for unrelentless climbing park near lake compounce and ride Tookey's Trail to Compounce Ridge Trail. CT Walk Book has good map with all the trails.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Nassahegon, Mattabasset

Summary: Have 10+ miles if wide fire roads, some single track, and on Mt Southington Ski Area the T-bar offers a nice side-by-side downhill. Gret views, sometime very muddy, don't drink the water!
Recommended Route: Start at the bottom of Mt Southington, go left (facing up the Mt.) untill a old dirt road and the right (about 300ish feet)go up past what looks liek a junk yard(of sorts), follow up untill it forks, then have fun

Summary: South Mtn. can be a mtn. bikers Heaven or Hell. Tons of trails from open fireroad to the nastiest singletrack. Logs, rocks, sand, and when it rains, some of the wettest conditions ever. Ride the spillway, the Bobcat trail, and anything with a blue marker. Just watch out for occasional horses and MX'ers. Leave your attitudes home and have fun.
Recommended Route: There are several ways in. Go in at the intersection of East St./Old Mtn. Road in Wolcott or park at Alcott Middle Scool ON Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott,go out entrance take left then take 2nd left of Woodtick. Go down road about 100 yards and you will see trailhead in front of you. Most of the riding is on the Bristol/Wolcott side, keep in mind this is a mtn. ridge that stretches from Bristol towards Cheshire. Don't be afraid to explore all the sidetrails off the main fire roads. It is pretty hard to get lost in here.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Closest trails: Burlington/Nasahegan, West Hartford/MDC, Camp Sloper Southington/Hubbard Park, Brooksvale/Chesire
