A little known egress with a nice drop in and some tight, but short singletrack. Then along an abandoned road for a little ways. Go straight when you come to a cross road. Follow fire road aqlond resevoir. When you get to an up hil, watch for hiking trail sign to the right. Follow this trail. Some nice ups and downs, roots, etc. Continue until come to another abandoned road. At this point turn right and cross the old bridge. Continue along old road - take second right, follow end of water and circle back aroung to the boat launch. This last section is very rocky and technical, but relatively flat. From boat ramp circle around the dam on the road to complete this nice loop.
From West Thompson Dam - Head west past the end of Church Street - park at fire station on right (West Thompson Fire Dept). Ride back torwards the dam, immediately after rock the trail will be on your left - stay to the left trail - the right has not been completed yet...
Summary: There are a few trails that go left off Bull Hill Rd (south). One of them goes all the way down to the residential area behind what used to be Putnam Ford/Lincoln dealership (boating store now?) You cross a powerline, too, which is a blast. There is a lot of riding up there, VERY technical, and be prepared to bushwack some, the trails tend to get overgrown. Hint: Buy a USGS Topographical map and drive towards the biggest section of green on it. New England is filled with cool old logging trails.
Recommended Route: At the north end of the loop, before crossing the quinnebaug river on the old foot bridge, go Left, or west up the washed out road. Take a right on the paved road, and then your first left on the next paved road. This is Bull Hill Road. This goes straight through to Woodstock, ending on Roseland Park Road.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Bigelow hollow state park.
