Cromwell Trails

There are a ton of split offs in there. You just have to explore around. You cant get lost in them. The trails are up and down hills. Lots of extreme dh parts and same with the uphill parts. Not to technical but is really fun beacause you can just fly down the trails.
Type in your home address and then 110 Field rd. cromwell. At http://www.mapquest.com. It will give you the directions. 110 Field rd.is the closest house to the trailhead. At the railroad tracks stop there and park. There is a gate a little bit farther down the road. Enter there.
Summary: This place has recently become a state park, called River Highlands. No facilities except for a small parking lot on Field Rd, and no entry fee. Set the GPS to 1 Wexford Place, Cromwell. There's a lot of doubletrack and some pretty good singletrack as well, including a smooth, swoopy trail along a ridge and a pretty cool, but pretty mild, stunt trail through a gorge down to the river. Nothing very technical. Lot of ATV use but they seem to be staying off the singletrack. The park property runs north along the river all the way to the TPC golf course. It might be possible to find some more riding if you head north along the railroad tracks from that point, but I don't know if it would be legal. As has been said, the mosquitos will eat you alive, so bring bug spray or visit out of season.
Recommended Route: It's a small place, so just go and explore. You could cover the whole place in a couple of hours. Small but fun.

Summary: They should change the name of this park to Mosquito Swarm Park. Now that that's out of the way - these trails are pretty tame compared to other Tyler or Case. There are some sections that are intimidating and a few that are flat insane. Lots of logs and, oddly enough, hardly any stone at all.
There are some ramps and jamps made from 'natural materals' in the park but they've mostly deteriorated into unusefulness. A few steep decents into "The bowl" are extreme and fun!
Recommended Route: From the parking lot, follow the fire road until it forks, go left. Go up the hill, shattered and torn from the motorized vehicles, go 'round to the left at the top. Follow it all the way out until a fast downhill dips and hair-pin turns toward the golfcourse. Jump over the burm and follow along the goldcourse on a slightly hidden singletrack trail. After getting to the top of the hill, it will fork again. Go left, into the woods, follow until it dips between two hills. Don't go up, turn right and jump over the logs. Follow this trail through the swamp , pass the parking left as it hairpins back into the woods and follow until it crosses the FR again. Cross the FR into the woods again and cross three wooden bridges. After crossing the third bridge avoid the gentle right turn and go straight, then turn right up a small hill. This trail follows the bowl along its rim. When you are dumped back onto the FR, follow it until you see a steep descent with logs jamming it. Follow the line and go down it. It's fast but not hard. Turn right at the bottom and follow across the streams until a steep uphill (hike-a-bike?). At the top, bear left and follow along to FR.

Summary: Some of the trails are getting overgrown due to lack of use. The stunts are nolonger safe. The trails are some of the smoother that I have ridden. None of the ragged rocks that most of CT has. They are well marked and flow nicely. It a quick and fun place to ride. Not very techinical but good flowing speed. An easy place to ride for beginners and a change of pace for advanced
Recommended Route: Blue -> Green -> yellow -> red
