Airline Trail

This is a commonly-traveled rails-to-trails corridor and I've seen nothing indicating that it can't be ridden. More than anything, it is a great way for the more serious rider (or for anyone for that matter)to relax, soak up some great New England pastoral scenery, get a good aerobic workout,or to travel offroad from one trail or town to another. I've rated this trail as amenable to beginners so newer riders won't shy away from it, but that more experienced riders might use it as a thoroughfare or a time-trial-type workout. Keep an eye out for more technical offshoots and more popular bonafide MTB trails along the way. If you know the area, you could make a day of some casual riding and stop at a few roadside stands/farms for some treats. Be courteous to hikers (w/dogs) and equestrians.
This rails-to-trails corridor crosses many towns so trailheads can be accessed any number of ways. Here's one: from the intersection of rte 169 and 6 in Brooklyn, head west on rte 6 for about 6 miles until Hamilton and take a right into Goodwin Park. Park on your right and ride down the road about 1/4 mile until the gated trailhead on your right (or left). Go either way; it's about 17 miles to its northeastern end in Putnam, and about 9 miles to its southwestern terminus in Windham.
Summary: The airline trail is crushed gravel with offshoots that I certainly would consider intermediate to advanced. It is very scenic. Highly recommended, but pay attention to hikers/walkers, especially with dogs.
Recommended Route: Grayville Park in Amston

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary: If you are looking for a great ride with some friends just to hang out this is the place. If you are looking for a tough ride, you might want to think twice. It's great to make a day out of and see some nice stuff, you can really put some miles behind you as the ridding surface is quick. Make sure to stop along the way at the various places they have set up, there are some great views. Check out the via-ducts if you don't mind the walk down the hill of sand and trapr-rock. All in all if you are looking to just get out and put some miles in it beats beating the pavement anyday, just be careful some parts tend to get crowded.
Recommended Route: Where ever is closest for you to start.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: I like to ride this trail after a day at work. go West. It is an easy trail with a disseiving slight grade, just enough to make you notice. Very nice views, going through bird sanctuary and over running brooks. Some single track off to the sides (be careful not to end up in someone's yard don't go on Priavte property clearly marked) When you get to Rt. 2, make a right and first left, under rt. 2 and into commuter lot, trail picks up at the end of lot. You will go through Salmon River SF. You can find lots of hidden single track here (and a geo-cache for those with a GPS) If you stay on the trail, you will go over two viaducts that are actually covered over steel bridges. Very nice pastural view above the tree line. Keep going and you will end up at East Hampton Bogs. You can go into East Hampton for a little treat. The out and back ride is about 22 miles. Nice l'il workout. Please post if you know anything of the trail after the smooth course gravel ends.
Recommended Route: Rt 85 Amston/Hebron, parking lot on RT. 85 just next to Rt. 85 Lumber in Amston (Shorter version, park off exit 16 RT. 2 at either commuter lot or trail head on Old Hartford Road and go either way)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Salmon River, Hartman Park, Meshomasic, Case MTN, Gay City, Bluff PT., Arcadia SF in RI (bring a GPS for this one)
