North Trail

The first portion of the trail "approximately 1 mile" is a mix of gradual climbs and some steep ascents. Once you reach the summitt you will see all of Vail and about 200 degree view of the surrounding area. I estimate that this is approximately 9,950 feet. The entire trail from start to finish is about a 2000 foot climb...although gradual. Beautiful views and an excellent ride abound.

Trail Directions
Take the West Vail exit off of I-70. Take the round-a-bout towards the Wendy's. Go past Wendy's and go to the end of the road and bear right onto Arosa drive. Follow Arosa about 2 blocks and then take the left onto the dead end road. The trail picks up at the end of the dead end road. Once on the trail you will encounter several y's. Take a right at the first y and then a left at the second y. After much effort this trail takes you back out to Arosa drive.

When on Davos Trail, gate will be on your LEFT for access to the 3/4 miles of singletrack. Sorry, hit "enter" with this mistake.

Summary:
I highly recommend this trail for Intermediate riders and above who want a quick +/- 1 hour ride. It has all of the elements of a good one -- challenging climb, big views, aspen and pine forest and a sweet, fast and fun singletrack descent. You can do this as an out and back, but I would recommend the loop described above. Some people also do it in reverse -- I don't know why, since it would entail very steep climbing and/or hike-a-bike, which I'm not a fan of.

Recommended Route:
WEST NORTH TRAIL
Park on North Frontage Road about 1/2 mile West of the West Vail roundabout and Wendy's. Ride East for a dozen yards and go left on Chamonix Lane. About .25 miles up Chamonix, go left and uphill on Arosa Drive to the "T" intersection. Go Right here on Garmish to the dead-end. Take the left singletrack up the hill and basically take every left after that as you switchback and traverse the hillside. You will top out at about 3.5 miles -- either turn around at this point or continue down for a fun, fast downhill to the Davos dirt road. Go right here for 1/2 mile then go through the gate at your right for 3/4 miles of winding, fast singletrack back to the Frontage Road and your car. Total mileage is 6.5 miles.

Son of Middle Creek, Buffehr Creek, Grand Traverse
