Summary:
I had read the reviews before I started my weekend, the previous reviews were not very positive but I decided to ride it as reviews can be misleading, but they were not. The trails are all fire trail, or should I say horse trail, nothing fun and for me a cardio workout of a 3 out of 10, rode all 19+ miles and realized the horses are tearing up the trails and bikes have been banished to ride the manure trail.

Recommended Route:
Don't bother unless your just looking for a workout

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Rampart Resevour

Summary:
This is one of the best places to see some beautiful Colorado views, especially in the fall. Looking for aspen? Mueller's got it. I really enjoy Mueller for the high(er) altitude training (9500 ft+), awesome views and lack of people. This is a very quiet place and those of you doggin' it can stay away! Yeah, less people! Mueller is not big, but a great place to get out of the Springs for the day. The trails are not techincal at all, but there are some tough climbs (20 degree grades). I rated the aerobic level at a 3 but the altitude and a few of the climbs push that level. Also, there can be spots of loose granite making the technical level higher. Carry the map with you that you get from the Front Gate. You won't get lost unless you can't read numbers. The trails are well marked and the ones that are closed to bikes are clearly marked. Yes, you have to pay to get in, but get an annual pass and make it a point to visit more of Colorado's State Parks within the year. You will find some great places if you choose to look.

I HAVE ONLY HIKED THIS TRAIL, but it has some AWESOME scenery and some good stuff. Not techie AT ALL, but the scenary is excellent. Although it is good, I would not pay to do these trails. I guess some are closed to MTB's anyway?? Well, it's a nice easy trail for relaxing.

READ THIS REVIEW! As of June 14, 2003, the price per vehicle is now $5 for a day pass. AND, the worse part, most of the trails are closed to Mt. Bikers from June 1 to June 20 due to all the mamma Elk that are calving! Needless to say, the ride sucked. I'm going to take my wife and newborn (in a bike hitch )biking here in the early fall for a family event. That's all it's good for. Beautiful scenery, but not a place for a workout or gonzo riding (especially during Elk calving season)!
I first tried getting to Dome Rock Wilderness which butts against the State Park. I heard from many outdated books that it's a great ride, but now it is closed to all Mt. Bikers! I hope this is only seasonal, but no dates were found on any sign to indicate this.

Recommended Route:
From 67 of course. Not accessible from Dome Rock Wilderness area any longer!

Summary:
As of Nov, 2001 there are about 19 miles of legal trail in Mueller according to the very friendly park folks. All gravel fireroads. The only technical challenge was the ice in spots. Rode the whole place in 2 hours. Lots of horse s*** on the trails that are open. Save your $4 for lunch and go somewhere else. I wouldn't even recommend the place for beginners, too much gravel and the climbs are steeper than what they would call fun. Would have been more fun to ride Rampart Road from Garden of the Gods than this or heck, just go road riding. I'd give it a 2 based on scenery but the horse poop brings it back down. The "Mountain Biking in Co Springs" book gives this place a great review-must be very dated. The author lists the technical challenge of Mueller equal to Capt Jack's-what's he smoking? I could have ridden Mueller on my road bike.

Recommended Route:
They're all the same

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Capt. Jack's, Jones Park, Ute Valley, numorous dirt roads in the area that are free
