, from Orlando, Florida Summary: I did this trail alone in 2002 and with my brother-in-law a month ago. It is a jeep trail, but bicycles and hikers are allowed, and everyone is courteous.
It is an epic ride. The base is around 7700, but most vehicles can easily make it into the 8000 ft. range. You must ride, push and carry your bike up. At around 11,780 feet you will be rewarded with a beautiful lake surrounded by mountain peaks. On the way down is the roughest part of the trip. Many large rocks that tested my measly 4" of travel to the extreme. Once your down to about 10,000 it smooths out a little bit, and progressively gets easier. I recommend a very sturdy bike for the trip down, but also a light bike for the hike up. Good luck.
If anyone else out there has ridden this trail, please email me, I'd like to see how many people have ridden it. michaelfaulk@hotmail.com
Bring cold weather and rain gear. Extra parts for everything. Enough food and water for the 6-9 hours it will take you. And protective gear for anything you don't want to damage too much. Recommended Route: It is an out and back ride. Or should I say up and down.
