double track that goes uphill for 5 miles to Little Park road, along the way there are some moderately difficult uphill sections, then you will encounter the Mother of all Uphill sections the dreaded Widowmaker Hill, go luck on this one going up (i can never manage more than halfway up this) To return go down Little Park Rd (fast) or back the same way (no, not really a loop but an excellent 1 hour ride)

Summary:
We rode up and then took Eagle's Wing & Eagle's Tail back down.

Despite only being back on a bike a few months I wanted to give this one another shot (rode it maybe 15 years ago?). Well, I thought I rode it back then, but now I'm pretty sure it was actually Andy's Loop.

Probably wasn't a good idea being out of it for so long. Didn't get a great cardio workout because I ended up unclipping and walking the bike quite a few times. It's at least 2.5 miles of steady uphill and then downhill the whole way back.

There are many technical areas on the downhill that I didn't even try. Hit a rock above widowmaker and bent my rear derailer hanger. It completely broke on Eagle's tail about a mile from the lot. So I had to coast/push it out.

Definitely not for us beginner/intermediate riders unless you want to walk the bike over numerous areas. I guess I enjoy less technical rides than this one. If you like rocks and technical stuff this area is FOR YOU! If you don't, I'd head to Fruita or Kokopelli's.

Recommended Route:
Tabaguache up widowmaker, right on Eagles Wing, down to Eagle's Tail and back to the lot.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Anything on the Kokopelli's trail system.

Ha ha... I've since gone back and ridden this area numerous times and had a blast. Only one spot that still seems to get me on the downhill of Eagles Wing. A much better bike, better conditioning, getting used to the clipless pedals, and more saddle time make this my favorite area probably.

Gunny Loop, Lemon Squeezer, Holy Cross, the Ribbon, Free Lunch.... newer additions like Pucker Up, Prenup

Summary:
I stayed in GJ for 3 months for studying and I rode the Lunch Loop about a milion times and that should say everything. There is such a wide variety of real fun downhill singletrails and the uphill is simply a legend. Allthough I never really suceeded in riding the widowmaker - and never saw anybody riding it - I enjoyed the constant technical challenge of the double track. The views and technical sections of the downhill are among the best I know and I tried a lot of singeltrails in the Colorado/Utah area. Definitely 5 stars if you know the best trails to go down again. Definitely not for beginners.

Summary:
This is a really fun route because you climb the dirt road but come down on the single track. Lot's of rock transitions and is a general kick. It can get so hot in the summer and snowed in last winter. I was out in 100 degree's. INSANE! The crowd has been cool so far just respect the walkers and puppys that roam free.

Recommended Route:
Start at Tabuguache Tralhead and go up the dirt road till the bottom of Widowmaker hill which you will know when you get to it. Instead veer right and continue up single track up to a small saddle. Take a safty break and then go down the trail nearest west.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Left ridge up the vally.

Summary:
just go uphill until yoiu don't feel like it anymore, and take one of the little cross-trails and go down. If you get lost, all you have to remember is that uphill takes you away from the parking lot and downhill will take you back.

Recommended Route:
I'm not sure if this is really part of Lunch Loop, but it's really fun. Start at the trailhead, and go on the leftroute if you want the easier ride. Gor right if you want a REALLY teachnical uphill ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pollock Bench Loop, Mary's and Lion's loops
