Distance: Approximately 4 mile loop.

Ride Type: desert ride with few trees and plenty of sage brush.

Technical scale of 5: ascents .5; descents 3.5.

Aerobic scale of 5: ascents 3, would be higher if climbs were longer. This trail does have recovery sections.

Time: approximately 1.25 hrs.

From parking lot take take dirt road. You will first pass a gate. You will notice a single track path on your left just pass this gate, this will be your ending point of the loop. Continue on road, you will pass a cattle guard and not much past the cattle guard you find a jeep trail on your left, take it. It will climb for the most part straight and then make a sharp right switchback taking you up on a ridge. While on this jeep track you will continue a ridge that will make a sweeping left turn to continue your climb. This will be your last real climb that will take you to the first descent on the double track. Look for a somewhat overgrown single track before your jeep trail climb makes it's second significant right turn switch back. You will know that you're on the correct single track when you find larger rocks of red soon after starting the single track (less than 50 yds.) The single track will descend quite rapidly and turn left...this beings "endo alley". A number of smaller drops are on this section and it's rocky but not overly technial. The trail will turn left and flatten out. After the long flat you will make a subtle climb just prior for the last technical descent...I find this descent worse than endo alley, steeper and rockier. Complete your descent to the bottom of the hill and quickly begin your climb up a sweeping right turn to the top of the ridge, you should be travelling south now. Make your next right, this is back on the jeep trail. Take for 100 or so yards to the only single track available here. Take a moment of silence for the fallen mtb rider's tombstone on your left prior to your last descent. This descent is a series of switchbacks on soft loose dirt that will drop you off at the first gate encountered on your way up the dirt road.

I-70 to exit 163 Edwards. Take exit North. Paved road with bend left and begin steep climb. You wil pass a medical center on your left. Soon after the center there will be a right turn, take it...it will immediately lead you to a dirt road...take dirt road for 50 yards and park.

I enjoy the berry creek trail. It IS short even with the endo ally section. To make it longer I do multiple laps. In the summer the tail is fast rolling single track down hill with a few soft sharp corners. Most climbs are double track, hard pack, not so steep.

No cover from the sun anywhere so sunblock is important.

Recommended Route:

From 70 go NORTH off the highway (away from the gas station) on Berry Creek Road on the roundabout on the north side of the highway. Avoid Single tree, take the next right heading up the hill. At the top of the hill you will see a Shaw Cancer Research Center on your left, turn right on the second road then left less then thirty feet in on to the dirt road. Park then bike up the road.

At the gate the end of the downhill section will be on the left side of the dirt road. Continue on the dirt road for a while until you come to a very sharp left onto a Jeep road heading up. Take that until you get to a saddle with usually a fire pit. Glass is always present here, beware.

Going left here is the super short loop back to the gate, right will go up again the distance you climbed at this point with a left on to endo ally which will go down until you then go back up until you then go down again back to the gate. Bad description I know sorry.

The long loop takes me 25 minutes when I am in shape. It is a 45 minute climb for my not racer buddies.

I hope the above directions help you out on this ride. I just rode this 08/09/04 and the directions I was given were just wrong. What was to be a 4 mile ride ended up being 8+ miles...anyhow, I hope the directions help.

The rocky descents are imtermediate to advance depending on your line. Lines are easy to take since the trail is wide and therefore this loop isn't too rough for an intermediate rider. I would not take a new rider on this loop unless they don't mind walking some of the descents.

I didn't rate this trail higher since the climbs weren't long enough for me and I prefer rides that are in the trees.
