Zippety Do Dah

Part of the Bookcliffs area trail system.. A great rollercoaster ride of sweet singletrack. All very rideable, but a little sketchy in areas because of exposed, steep, narrow and fast descents.. But that is what singletrack should be, right? Just to echo the sentiment of the locals, if you dont have the skills to pay the bills, dont ride the trrail. Others have bypassed the steep sections of the trail and made their line.. This ruins Fruita''s amazing singletrack. Ok. enough of that! Enjoy the trail.. It is only one of 6 in the Road 18 area.

Summary:
Stopped in Frita to ride some trails before heading over to Moab to do the White Rim. Drove up 18 road (alot of dust and washboard) and camped in the BLM camgrounds right at the base of the Bookcliffs. The trail sytem is well marked, but nice to have a map. It has some up-hill single track to get to the top. Don't let the experts only sign scare you, take your time and enjoy nature's rollercoaster! It has some climbs but mainly downhill. The trail was kinda dusty but a blast. You can cross over the road and continue on or make a left and do it all over again. Definitely a Mt Bike highlight!!

Recommended Route:
We left straight from camp to the trail head. There are plenty of places to park and make multiple loops on any of these trails. There wasn't a fee to camp and they had decent restrooms, however the spots are dry so you'll have to bring plenty of water. Over The Edge bike shop let us fill up a 5gal water jug, just ask...

Summary:
This is the trail that all others will be compared to! Words fail to adequately describe this trail, and the 18 road trail system in general. Some phrases do come to mind: Mountain biking zen. Cycling Bliss. etc. This is undoubtedly the most fun I have had on a bike. It is on the short side, as has been mentioned, but similar to lift assisted resorts, the trail system allows you to bomb down and get back up easily and quickly for multiple runs. This is an amazing trail that has earned a special place in my heart! There is only one thing I hate about Zippity Do Da: It makes everything else seem sub-par! If the Youtube videos don't get you excited, check yourself for a pulse.

Recommended Route:
Ride up the access road (if you are a downhiller) or ride up prime cut / kessel run. There is much more to this area than just Zippity, and any way you slice it............AWESOME!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
All of the 18 road trails. Joes Ridge, Kessel Run, Prime Cut, Western Zippity. Just go. Fruita is surrounded with amazing trails and friendly locals / bike shop guys that are helpful and can guide you to the trails that suit you best.

Summary:
Epic.....that is all you have to say. Rated BEST FLOW in the January 2009 Bike Mag trail awards for a reason. This trail is by far my favorite and the one that every trail from now on out will be rated against in my mind. (Well along with Porc Rim in Moab)

Recommended Route:
The description says it all...don't ride off the trail. Seriously, the land is so fragile around Fruita it will NEVER and I mean NEVER be the same if you do. Respect the land.

Summary:
Big fun! It's a roller coaster, a blast, and a beautiful ridge ride that should not be missed. More fun than Joe's ridge and longer too. If you are comfortable with steep mostly-smooth descents and riding on a ridge, you'll be fine on this - not much in way of rocky hard stuff. I'd say you need to be experienced, but not expert. Are some short steep climbs - good challenges but not big workouts. Great ride.

Recommended Route:
Up Prime Cut.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Many good trails in the area.
