Ridden Trail: Once a year

Reviewed by: Peter D.
, from Denver CO Summary: A great warm-up trail for getting to vail mountain. Can definitely be tricky with over growth covering many obstacles. It may be short but the technical aspects make up for the length. Recommended Route: Starting at clubhouse, finishing at gold peak. Or Gold Peak to clubhouse. Either route provides many challenges for the seasoned rider. Other recommended trails in the same area: Lost lake loop

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Vail, CO Summary: This is a great ride because you have a chance to recover from lung busting climbs since the trail is a traverse. You can really push your limits because recovery is only a few feet away. It takes me about 15 minutes to reach the end, but I don't make the descent down toward the golf course parking area because I'm not interested in carrying my bike back up. There are a number (five, I think) of tight switchbacks. On a good day, I can make it up one, or two. This trail offers many different types of technical challenges from switchbacks (up and down), big rocks, a log, water crossing, etc. Remember, though, you may encounter an occasional hiker (who will most likely express surprise that a biker can ride a trail they are finding a challenge to walk!)so, be courteous and try not to scare them. We want to keep our trail access! Recommended Route: This one of my favorite "quick rides" however, I start from the other end. Head for Gold Peak at Vail; take the bike path between chair six and the children's center (east). The trail access is being rerouted along the rope tow. The trail becomes clear right as you pass the end of the rope tow - get ready to hammer! As you crest that first swithback climb you will have a few feet to recover before hitting a very tight switchback that will send you toward a footbridge on the Vail Trail.
