Take Flag Creek Trail (422) down.
Take Trail 415 up. When you hit a fire road take a left, ride for less than a mile and then take a right onto 415)
Take Bear Creek trail down (trial 415)
Take Deadman Gulch trail up.
Take trail 420 down to Cement Creek Rd.
Climb back to where you parked.
Make sure you buy the Aspen/Crested Butte/Gunnison map, without it's a consufing route.
Hwy 7 from CB toward Gunnison.
Turn onto Cement Creek Rd.
Go up about 10 mi.
Park at turn off for FS 759/Reno Divide.
Ride bike up to top of FS759 (or drive)
You can also shuttle - one car at the top or Reno Divide Rd, and one car 420/Cement Creek Rd trailhead
Summary: Even with the motorcycle ruts this is one helluva ride. 3 climbs and 3 downhills, each better than the one before it. Be in good shape, take food, and plan on spending some time outdoors. Do it.
Recommended Route: Up Cement Creek Road, Reno Divide Road, down Flag. Get a map and it makes sense.

Summary: This is definitely in my top 5 all time favorite rides. My overall favorite in the CB area.
This ride has 3 climbs, and 3 dowhnills
The second two climbs are singletrack, and at times are very steep, but still very doable. Definitely helps if the trail has seen enough moisture to pack down the dust.
Everyone I've talked to about this ride seems to have differing opinions as to which dowhnill section is their favorite. Probably because they are all 3 incredible.
I agree with the previous post, as the 2nd dowhnill is my favorite. It seems odd as I usually prefer technical rides, and this dowhill is not technical at all. But there is just something amazing to me about this dowhill, as every time I have ridden it I have let out a scream of joy as I cross the bridge. It is extremely fast, and just has an amazing feel to it
The 1st dowhnill is great as well. It has some great places to catch some minor (but fun) air, with just enough technical stuff to keep you on your toes.
Deadmans gulch is also great, it is very different than the 1st two. Alot more technical, with switchbacks that seem to go on forever. If ridden with speed, you can also catch air in many places. It is a great way to finish a great ride.
The scenery is definitely nice, but it does not really compare to the more intense scenery found in other parts of the greater CB area.
Recommended Route: follow the route in the guidebooks.
Or to lengthen the ride, add the rosebud trail. Makes for a fun addition if you have the energy.
for a very long ride, jump over to spring creek rd. and do the doctors park loop then back to deadman gulch
Other recommended trails in the same area: a guidebook is a good place to start. Once you have exhausted all the main rides, get creative with a map. Some of the best rides are hardly ever ridden, you just have to be willing to push your bike above treeline for what seems like forever. However, the reward is mindblowing scenery with incredible dowhnill sections and often not seeing any people.

Summary: Folks,this is THE ride in CB.I must say, that this is the stuff that makes me believe that mountaincycling has some sort of addiction potential. I rode it in august 2005 and I was simply struck by the surface, the speed, the scenery and the length of this singletrail. For eruropeans (like me) very very unique and this trail alone is a reason to return to CB. I didn't bother about the occasional mountaincycles, although this is something that is very unusual in europe. I do not believe that the last downhill is the best of the whole trail. I prefer the last downhill before this switchback thing. But honestly, this trail is awesome and mountainbikers paradise.

Cross Country Rider
Summary: Reno Divide-Flag Creek-Bear Creek takes you through classic alpine valleys. It's as scenic as any area I've ridden.
The whole experience, unfortunately, is likely to be marred by motorcycles. When I rode this route in August of 2004, the beautiful alpine valleys were clotted with them and their accompanying noise and dust clouds.
Even if you don't encounter motorcycles on the day you ride, you'll feel their impact. Once you start descending from the crest of the Reno Divide Trail, you'll find that the singletrack becomes a series of rather annoying and energy-draining rollers. I suspect the motorcycles have caused this. If it hasn't rained recently, the dust can be inches deep, and I suspect the motorcycles are the culprit again.
Finally, the many switchbacks down Deadman's Gulch are severely rutted and gouged, and if you're tired, it's a chore rather than a delight to descend this part of the route. I can't believe bicycles or horses would do so much severe damage, so again it must be motorcycles. I have heard that the Crested Butte Mountain Biking Ass'n repaired the switchbacks in 2002; if so, they've deteriorated quickly.
I believe in trail-sharing wherever possible, and I respect the skill of the motorcyclists who are able to negotiate the route, but Reno Divide-Flag Creek-Bear Creek is quite a mess. I hope that the Forest Service will consider closing the route to motorcyclists, or limiting them to a particular time of year.
Recommended Route: Apparently there's a singletrack that parallels the fire road climb up Reno Divide. Ask locally.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Look for trails on which motorcycles are not allowed.

Summary: I live in Phoenix and ride quite a bit. I take a trip to CB every summer to escape the heat and this ride is one that we never miss. This is by far one of the best rides I have ever done in my life. It is not technical, but it is challenging because of the altitude. The climbs are long but every one of the downhills is worth it. If you are going to CB don't miss this ride. If you are planning on going anywhere else to ride, just stay in CB and enjoy the rides and the town itself. It is a great place. If it is not the summer time and you are looking for good riding, then go to Phoenix. You can't beat either one.
Recommended Route: Get the book in town. It is perfect for all of the rides.
