Weekend Warrior Summary: This past labor day weekend I got in my first ever Fruita area rides. I had heard great things and seen wonderful videos done by Pete Fagerlin but it just doesn't compare to experiencing it yourself! I chose to do the Mary's Loop ride (minus Horsethief) and was the first on the trail at about 6:45am. The ride was excellent and there were only a couple times I had to get off for a technical section over my skill level. I'm already planning my next trip and have been looking for a job in the area so I can ride there all the time!

Cross Country Rider Summary: Mary's is rideable by novices in all but a handful of short sections. It is fast and fun, winding along rim rock overlooking the CO River for much of the route. The start is probably the hardest section: a long, loose climb. Mary's is a good trail to combine w/ others in the area. It is located in the Kokopelli network - the trailhead is on the south side of I-70 at the Lima exit (one exit west of Fruita).

Cross Country Rider Summary: Moved back to Denver from GJ. Rode it again before hitting Moab. Much more fun than Moab and closer trails than Moab. Clockwise is the best way to ride. Did rustlers as a warmup. For more fun, do not take the fire road back to parking area, ride it the opposite way back. Other recommended trails in the same area: Rustlers, steve's, lions, troy built, anb the complex at 18 1/2 road. All fun and easier to connect to than Moab. Can do 4 trails in less time than going from parking area to parking area in Moab.

Cross Country Rider
, from Morrison,Colorado Summary: This trail lived up to my expectations, which were based on reviews I'd read here. This is a great intermediate trail with a few technical areas. I typically like more of a technical challenge, but the scenery more than made up for the lack of technical terrain. We rode Rustlers loop initially and accidentally, but it ended up being a good warm up. We rode Marys Loop to Horsethief Bench loop and finished on Marys Loop. About 18 miles in all. We drove 2 1/2 hours from where we were staying in Beaver Creek to ride this trail and it was well worth the trip. Recommended Route: From the East, Exit 15, 4 miles West of Fruita, head South and cross over I-70, take a right just past the eastbound offramp, up a dirt road for about 1/2 mile and you will see the parking lot on your left Other recommended trails in the same area: slick rock trail in Moab

, from Boulder, CO Summary: See the suggested epic route description above. The only thing you miss is half of Troy/Mack Ridge. Obviously you could mix it up and work that in as well. Get the map from BLM or better from Over the Edge in town ($2, but with all the trails highlighted). Great combination of tight singletrack, technical sections, fast doubletrack, great views, exposure, climbs, descents. I'd put it up there with Porcupine Rim. Not as fast and ledgy (ie, drops), but does score points for all of the trail options/combinations. Bring lots o' water and sunscreen. And if you get out early in the AM, it's not too hot even in late June. Recommended Route: You can make a real epic out of this. I did Mary's-Horsethief-Mary's-Steve's-Lion-Troybuilt-Moore Fun. Sounds like a Phish concert set. Anyway, about 25-30 miles all-in depending on how you string it together. May actually be better running it the other way (counter clockwise) since I think Moore Fun would be a little easier east to west. Other recommended trails in the same area: Book Cliffs - Zippety Doo Daa is like nothing else I've done. A definite a gut-check.
