Dillon,up straight creek to Eisenhower tunnel.Stay in valley northeast to ridge.Drop into Dry gulch.Look for rockfall{landmark}to left turn with small climb{300vert} to Herman Gulch.Use contour lines to find ridge.Got Map Skills? Stay on vague trail and create.Drop into Herman on great trail.Bare left at trail vagueness for 15 min. walk to lake/camp area.Pick up trail to jct.Jones Pass south trail{Gain ridge,1mi.}300 yards past ridge bail on the trail to right{east}at woods creek.Follow creek down 1mi.bare right.to trail.Ride to Berthud pass.Up,Down.Ride Rollins Pass Up,Down.Pavement,Rollinsville to Nederland to Boulder 35 miles down from top of Rollins pass.Make this your weekend instead of buying an suv and a condo. Please e-mail me for bragging rights.
Summary: After my 3rd annual ride I figure its time for an update. Here are more facts on the ride.
The Polar s710i read 9980 vertical gain. 10 hours for me,{I ride 25 percent off the leaders in any race I enter}.
3800 vert. from Dillon to the ridge above the Eisinhower tunnel. 700 more vertical to get to Herman lake. After that, Berthud pass and Rollins pass are no joke.
Between the tunnel and Herman lake it is 2 hours of hike\ride\bushwack.That is the best part of the ride as far as getting away from the world.
From Herman lake to Berthud pass; there is a junction just below the lake. Go north toward Jones pass{sign}.Gain the ridge and head down the first gully to the right{300yards past the ridge}.The dry riverbed makes for enviro-friendly riding, willows and ditches require a dismount. This area is Woods creek. You will find trail/road if you bear to the right.Follow this down to Henderson mill road and out to the pass just above Mitzpah
Other than descending the east side of Rollins pass, you are about done mountain biking.I need to find the route more direct to Nederland via Jenny Creek trail avoiding going all the way to Rollinsville.
If anyone knows of a dirt trail from peak to peak hwy.to Boulder please e-mail me.
I give this ride 5 flaming homosapiens in difficulty, because of the distance, riverbed riding, road hell being tired and the ever present lightning on Rollins Pass.Epic.
Recommended Route: Re-Con Herman,Dry gulches
