Short climb at the beginning, then smooth single track through Aspens. It's a short ride, you can do the loop easily under two hours.

Trail Directions
From Crested Butte, ride towards Mt. Crested Butte and ride pass the town. A few miles pass town you will see a parking lot and a sign saying 'Snodgrass' on the left. There is also a gate. THIS TRAIL IS MOSTLY PRIVATE LAND. You can only ride if the sign says its "OPEN". If it is, go through the fence. The trail is pretty well marked. You will emerge on the other side of the mountain on Washington Gulch road.

Summary:
Oh, the joys of winding through the aspen trees! This trail is short, technically and aerobically easy, and a lot of fun to ride. If open, ride this trail as a warm-up, cool-down, or just for fun!

Recommended Route:
To avoid the climb up the fire road, ride this trail out and back from Washington Gulch. The trailhead is about 3.5 miles from the intersection of Washington Gulch and Gothic Road.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
In Crested Butte? All. But do the Upper and Upper Upper if you want a great short ride and 401 if you want a great longer ride.

Summary:
Very nice trail. Signs say it is mostly on private property so be on good behavior. The trail starts off as a steep fireroad climb, crosses a fence, then turns into primarily a singletrack traverse around the southern edge of Snodgrass mountain before dropping you out to Washington Road. Very nice dirt. One third of the way through is a singletrack that takes off uphill to the right. This terminates on the Snodgrass Mountain fireroad, which you had been riding up in the first place. It climbs steeply all the way to the top of Snodgrass. Granny gear stuff. I climbed up there to see if there was any unadvertised singletrack descents all the way off the top, as you sometimes discover, especially if your guidebook is 5 or 6 years old as mine was. Unfortunately, the road just deadends. Views are difficult because of trees. There is a bottle there where you can leave messages, bring some paper, all the scraps are used up.

Getting back on the singletrack and over to Washington Road, led to a pretty quick exit.

Overall, I nice ride. My only complaint is that done as a loop as previously recommended you spend more of your time on pavement and dirt road than you do on singletrack. Knowing what I know now, I think I would just turn around and ride it as an out and back, in fact, I think I would start from Washington Road and climb up singletrack, bypass the singletrack that comes down to a T at the left, proceed to the overlook of the Snodgrass trailhead, circle around and up on the Snodgrass fireroad, then drop back down that singletrack that you earlier bypassed, then head back to Washington. Sort of a lollipop ride. You would see what I mean if you the terrain was right in front of you. The nice new map for that area does not show the little singletrack of which I speak, but it is signed at the lower T intersection

Recommended Route:
Out and back lollipop from Washington Road

Other recommended trails in the same area:
403, 401, and Deer Creek are right up the road.

Summary:
This is a very nice easy/medium trail in the Crested Butte area. It would be good warm up after the Lower Loop.

Recommended Route:
Can be done as a loop from the parking lot. Just ride Washington Gulch Road back to Mt. Crested Butte and back to the lot.
