Summary:
this trail shouldn't be in a magazine. That dirt road takes all the fun out of the ride. Stick to the front side w/ zippity, chutes, joes & prime cut. Maybe this is a good change for the Utah crew but if you live East of GJ, put together 28 miles at Pine Valley Ranch.

Recommended Route:
out & Back - skip the road riding for winter training

Kokopelli trailhead

Ridden Once

Summary:
This trail is way overrated, I saw it in IMBA's epics book and decided to try it, the uphill is so boring up the fireroad, I would rather walk my bike up an extreme uphill, then you lose most of the elevation on the fireroads again. The rappel is a joke and I don't know how you would do this thing alone, luckily I ran into someone on the trail. The singletrack is cool, but then you end up going up chutes and ladders the wrong way and you really lose all the fun downhill. Only needed to ride this one once. Go try Mary's loop.

Summary:
I can't beleive the amount of whining sissises who review this trail. It is epic! It is fun! It is fast! The climb isn't that hard, and you are rewarded with some awsome views as well as an amazing downhill after you reach the top. Plus let's not forget the repel--a photo opportunity with which to impress your friends. The ride takes a good three hours (at least) and is a little nicer in the spring or fall than in the summer, but it never gets unberably hot even in July. Bottom line: If you have a half day and want a true epic mountain bike adventure--hit the edge!

Recommended Route:
Take the frontside singletrack to Coal Gulch Road instead of spending the first five miles of this ride on a dirt road like the Fruita Fat Tire Guide recomends.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I don't think I've ever ridden anything in Fruita I didn't like. Rabbit Valley, Kokopelli's, 18 Road, Edge, Lunch Loops... It's all fun and varied!

Summary:
After leaving early to attempt the Hunter Canyon/Edge Loop and not finding it, we road back to our camp at the end of 18 Rd. and decided, in the heat of midday, to do the basic Edge loop. Can you say OVERRATED. With so many fun SMOOTH singletrack in the area I don't really know why you would want to punish yourself on this ride. I'd much rather ride all the other rides off 18 Rd. over and over than do this 'epic' ride. Granted the scenery is pretty awsome at the top, but for all the climbing on a shitty fireroad you loose at least half of it on a pucker steep, loose fireroad decent. Where's the fun in this? Then the first singletrack you do on the way down SUCKS. The 'waterfall' portage (this aint no rappel) is fairly easy although solo I wouldn't want to do it. After the portage down, the ride is fun with some great single track at the end of the ride. The singletrack on the frontside and the singeltrack at the very end is really enjoyable but the ride in total, although it is definately not an easy one, leaves much to be desired. We did find Hunter Canyon the next day in our 4WD's and this looks like it may be a fun area to explore but I won't be doing the Edge again any time soon. If you decide to give this ride a go make sure you have a map with a ride description, some food, and plenty of water. Definately a ride only for strong intermediate or advanced riders only because of the long sustained climbing and the total distance.

Recommended Route:
The way the trail book describes it.

Summary:
This trail is bitchin'. It has a long fireroad climb to the top of the Bookcliffs, after which it is all cherry singletrack. There is one section that comes of the top that is like a Giant Slalom course..pedal, peadl, pedal, bank it, turn hard, pedal, pedal, etc. Might be the best singletrack I've ever ridden. The rappel is cool. Support those guys down at Over the Edge Shop!

Recommended Route:
There is only one way to go - clockwise. Otherwise you'd be bummin'

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Kokopelli, Pollock Bench
