Cross Country Rider Summary: Very short thrill ride. I was expecting more, didn't get it and had to turn around and ride it again. If you are camped at 18rd you can do laps in the evening. Recommended Route: Up Prime Cut and over 18rd to the Frontside Edge loop, up the short steep section to Joe's. It's easy to miss the turn coming this direction. Just remember it's the very first left turn. Other recommended trails in the same area: Mary's loop

Downhiller Summary: Joe's is a blast. Yes, it's short, but that means you can do it more than once. Only a small amount of climbing is required, then it's as fast as you want it to be on the way down. There's an awesome descent about midway through that is super fast, twisty, and even has a couple jumps at the bottom. After that it's more flow all the way to a fire road where you can hit Kessel and jam down to the lower parking lot. Recommended Route: Take Frontside from the upper parking lot to Joe's, and then finish up on lower Kessel. Other recommended trails in the same area: Chutes and Ladders, Zippety do Dah

Weekend Warrior Summary: RIDE this trail under a full moon. It's awesome! The shrubery contrasts easily against the light colored soil. The first time we did it we were dared and a little drunk, but I've been riding it every year since when we camp there and it is so much fun. You don't even need a headlamp. During the day it's a great ride too. It hooks up with tons of other great rides or you can lap it till you're out of gas. It never gets dull or busy. Recommended Route: From camp hop right in or from the parking lot go to the end of 18 road and drop in or take Prime Cuts from the parking lot to Joe's Ridge Other recommended trails in the same area: All of Fruita/ Loma

Cross Country Rider Summary: Great Fun! Off the charts COOL FACTOR. Too short, though. But, there are plenty of enjoyable trails accessible from the trailhead, enough to keep you happy for the day. Very much worth experiencing. See Pete Fagerlin's video at:
http://www.mtbvideos.net/video/joesridge.mpg
The ONLY reason I rate this trail less than 5 is because of its length.
One more thing. Fruita is a great place. Stay there and you won't regret it. Check out Over the Edge Cycles in the middle of town. They have knowledgeable and helpful folks who are more than willing to suggest trails based on your skill/aerobic level. Recommended Route: Up Prime Cut, down Joes Ridge (really fun), connect with the lower section of Kessel Run for a hang-on-to-your-shorts type of fast run.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Okay, so this was fun but I find this trail a little overrated. To tell you the truth, the whole road 18 area is overrated. Don't get me wrong, the trails are fun (re: Zippety/Chutes/Joes etc.) but they are not as great as everyone seems to think. Joes was short and a little drab. There were a few fun sections but the majority of the trail was a bore. I guess I got my hopes up... Recommended Route: From the top down. Other recommended trails in the same area: Go do some Kokopelli rides. Much more interestin and techincal.
