Cross Country Rider Summary: Up and down. Short and sweet.
Trail offers a good workout and can be ridden completely without taking up a good portion of the day.
We usually stay at the United Campground in Durango, and it's closeby. Recommended Route: Go left. Other recommended trails in the same area: Downtown

Racer Summary: The trail starts out with a steep climb or you can use a second route with switch backs. After getting up the first leg most riders go counter-clock wise to the top. There are some techneical spots with some loose rocks and a couple of ledges. These are not very impossing and only begginer riders will have a tough time. The downhill is ripping fast, with some air time over the water bars. Sqeeze on your brakes a lot because crashs are no fun. Recommended Route: Counter clock wise after the first steep climb. Other recommended trails in the same area: Anything in Horse Gulch

Cross Country Rider Summary: I remember riding that trail when I was about 12 or 13 years old. That was ten years ago. It was the only trail I ridden in the Durango area. I would like to try some other trails in the Durango area sometime in the future. It was pretty fun I remember, I really liked the downhill and it was very technical. The climb was hard and wasn't too bad. I came down all the way from central Utah with my brothers and rode Road Apple Trail in Farmington,NM and a trail in Durango. Went to Farmington like five times and Durango twice. I really liked the trips and had a lot fun. I had good memories about it. Recommended Route: Went up the part that had switchbacks and went counterclockwise I think. Other recommended trails in the same area: Road Apple Trail in Farmington, NM. and Park City, Utah.

, from Dgo, CO Summary: Just did it yesterday. First of all, this is primarily a hiking trail. It has become less rocky recently and is now become a decent bike trail too. Absolutely brutal climb any way you approach it. The good news is the steepness becomes less gradual as you go. As a loop: I highly recommend doing this counter-clockwise only b/c the west side is the smoother/faster downhill. You will want to start up the trail with switchbacks b/c it is 10 times easier to get up onto the ledge than the other trail. I also recommend going down the switchback route too. If you look at a map you'll see exactly what I'm talking about here. As you go up the East side of the mountain, 2 different trails sorta interweave with eachother. You can pick either one. If you stay on the inside trail (away from the ledge) you will get a smoother climb. If you choose the trail closest to the ledge you will get killer views. As you descend on the west side (trail actually goes down the middle of the mountain) be prepared for some great air! Out-n-back: Again, start on the trail with the switchbacks. It is almost 100% climable (pros can do it with ease). As you reach the next junction, bare left and head up the west side trail. It is one hell of a climb! I probably had to stop a dozen times, but I'm just a recreational rider (non-racer) and weigh over 200 lbs. As you reach the top, you will get a killer view looking north up the Animas river valley. Then come down the same way and have fun! I DO NOT recommend doing this trail alone because if you bonk, there is no shortcut out of there. Be careful! Lots of loose rocks! Why just a 3 tire rating? All the other trails I listed above are better imo. This is a trail you do if you are bored of everything else in the area. It is also a great trail to train on for racing. As far as the exercise/grunt factor I'll give it 5 stars b/c it is one killer workout! Recommended Route: Counter-clockwise loop or west side out-n-back. Other recommended trails in the same area: Telegraph System, Dry Fork/Hoffheims, Log Chutes, Colorado Trail, Test Track.

, from Dgo Summary: This trail is a good one. It offers a big climb for exersise, great veiws, and a warp speed downhill with a few places to grab a little air (even in the snow). It is a little bumpy, and i prefer FS. This trail can be relativly crouded twards the bottom with hikers, but they are usually nice enough (or scared enough) to step aside for you. Recommended Route: depends on your style Other recommended trails in the same area: If you liked this, try raider ridge.
