spruce mountain

Short, super technical, super steep, singletrack climb to the top of spruce mountain (more of a mesa)with a double track loop on top. Many beautiful views of larkspur and greenland from the mesa''s sheer cliff edges. Extremely technical climbing and super fun descent. Climb up the oaks short cut and ride the loop on top in a counterclockwise fashion then on the descent hang a left and ride out on the short loop. Way fun. only about 6 miles max. you could turn it inot a long ride by joining it with the spruce meadows trail too, that will add about 10 miles. ride it during the week and you will be the only one there.

Summary:
The climb is easy to the top. Not technical at all the most would be some roots and a few rocks here and there. Great trail to see views at Greenland Overlook. The decending is the fun part, because you can get some really good speed with nothing to slow you down except a couple of switch backs.

Recommended Route:
Park at the lot and just follow the To mountain top trail.

Summary:
awesome trail with extremely technical climb and wicked awesome descent. I rode it on my XC bike so don't let the downhiller thing worry you. I would recommend riding this with a fork that has travel adjust because the climb is too steep for long travel but the descent is too steep for short. This was the most fun i have had on the front range on my XC bike. i only wish it were longer. it is definitley worht the drive.

Recommended Route:
climb straight up the hill from the trail head, the trail can be hard to find since it gets so little use but just follow the signs to the upper loop and you'll be fine. ride the lower loop as you are coming down, it adds another mile of super fun singletrack. on top ride the double track loop counter-clockwise. take some time to enjoy the veiws.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
i have riden the greenland trail too, it is very, very tame. I assume the spruce meadows trail is the same, the would beoth be great for familieswith small kids because they are still fun enough for grown ups but easy enough for Jr. Add them both to this loop and you could have 3-4 hours of MTB fun.
