from the top it`s all downhill for 95% of the trail with abou 15 jumps along the way. it`s not a bad uphil if you want to start from the bottom. the are other trails you can ride also 7 miles total. and once you get board you can head on down to deer creek canyon trailhead which isn`t to much further down it`s road

Summary:
This is an ok trail system. Yes, it does have fantastic scenery. I just wouldn't go out of my way to drive here for the amount of trail there is.

Recommended Route:
I do laps on Coyote Song to Cathy Johnson and back to the lot. That's about a five mile little loop that is easy enough to do several times for a workout.

Summary:
this is a fantastic trail with some awesome views of rock formations, cliffs, trees and mountains. i rode the whole lions back + coyote song loop in just over 70 minutes at a recreational pace with about 15 minutes of stopping to admire the views, letting horses and hikers go by, and going back uphill to do the jump sections again.do the whole loop, its worth it. great trail for newbies to work on handling skills without a lot of risk. very crowded, but the jump sections are wide open so you can look down the trail and wait till its clear before you bomb down (and other trail users can gape at your air).this is a heavily used trail,so dont forget to stop for hikers and horses.

coyote song to lyons back trail, hang a right and go uphill at lyons back,go till you hit pavement, left at pavement for about a thousand yards, then left back onto coyote song and downhill to parking lot.

Summary:
I usually start at the south parking lot, off deer creek. At the first left you can make take it and then make a left at the junction at the hiking only trail, That takes you to the Elk Grazing trail. One switchback to worry about there and a small climb as well. this loop adds 2.2 miles to it and can connect to rattelsnake gulch and then to Deer Creek park. I Usually connect back to Coyote song and take it to the paved bike trail to the Cathy Johnson trail. Johnson eventually ends up back at Deer Creek and I take the road back to my car. Nice workout ride, almost 10 miles total. Have not done the pass trail that connects to the top of the hogback on the trails. Overall a couple of big hills and 2 downhills with lots and lots of hikers. Cathy Johnson is DT the entire way. Elk grazing is singletrack with a bit of DT. Nice short ride

Recommended Route:
same as above

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Waterton/ roxborough, green mountain, deer creek
