From the intersection of highway 93 and 6th avenue west of Golden, turn west and go up Clear Creek Canyon. Travel roughly 12 miles up the canyon, going through tunnels 1,2 and 3. After tunnel 3, keep an eye out for the intersection (Signalled) of Highway 119 and 6th avenue. Stay right through the light. Keep a sharp eye out for a gravel road called Douglas Mountain Road on your right, less than a mile from the intersection. Take Douglas Mountain Road and follow it up for the better part of a mile. You'll eventually see a wooden Jeffco Open Space sign siganlling that you've arrived.
Summary: This is a great flowy, purpose built singletrack trail. One of my favorites close to Denver. If your going on the weekends make sure it is an even numbered day. Closed to mountain bikes on the odds.
Recommended Route: Start at Mayham Gulch off Hwy 6. Climb up to the loop and do it clockwise. Part of the year the Elk Range trail (doubletrack section)is closed so you will have to do an out an back on the travois trail.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Chimney Gulch\APEX combo, White Ranch, Golden Gate Canyon Park

Summary: Agree with below post, best loop starts at Mayhem Gulch parking lot along Route 6, which adds approximately 5 miles and another 800+ feet of climbing. Mayhem start and finish makes it roughly 17 miles and +/-2 hours of ride time. Nothing technical, but fun, fast, swoopy. Great training loop to mix in with the typical front range grind climbs. I prefer clockwise in order to maximize downhill singletrack. If you are riding on weekends, check the hiker/biker alternating day schedule on website, and also start early to avoid crowds cause this is a popular trail.
Recommended Route: Start/Finish at Mayhem Gulch parking lot along Route 6. Clockwise.
Other recommended trails in the same area: All of Jeffco is great - White Ranch, Lookout/Chimney Gulch, Apex, Falcon, etc.

Summary: This is smooth, fast, flowing singletrack in a beautiful place. It's completely rideable. There is nothing not to like!
It's true that it's not very technically challenging, but I wouldn't class it as an easy loop. If you're reading this then you're probably looking for info on a trail you've never ridden; given that you won't know what's around the corner, and the speed at which you can ride it, and the "airy" nature of some sections, the lack of technical challenge won't prevent a big fat grin from spreading across your chops.
Recommended Route: I only rode this trail for the first time yesterday...
I started from hwy 6, rode up Mayhem Gulch, onto Juniper, left onto Elk Range (doubletrack) to Travois, Evening Sun detour (it was cold), then Travois all the way back to Mayhem Gulch and down the way I came. About 17 miles I reckon.
Next time I'll probably give the other direction a try.
Other recommended trails in the same area: I've just moved here... all the trails I've ridden are outstanding compared to other areas I've lived! Looking forward to exploring more.

Summary: Smooth, fun trail. If you wanna get out & ride your bike in order to have fun, this is sweet. No deathmarch climbs, or rim-puncturing downhills, just smooth fun trail to contend with. SS-friendly as well. Only 1 place I can't clear, when I'm in shape.
Recommended Route: Park off of Rt6 at the Mayhem Gulch trailhead. RIde up to Juniper, then R on Travois. I usually hit Sunset, roll to parking lot, then do a 180 & follow Travois back to a L on Mayhem for 20miles of singletrack FUN.

Summary: My wife and I rode this trail after getting a referal from a neightbor. My wife is a novice rider, it was the perfect trail for her to gain some fitness and skills. We did the loop clockwise. I wanted to end on singletrack instead of the jeep road. The jeep road portion is uneventful but the second you get on Travois Trail it is beautiful smooth singletrack. There is some decent exposure as you traverse along the hillsides and excellent views throughout. We especially enjoyed descending into the valleys that were lush with trees and vegitation.
You won't find anything technical (other than tight switchbacks) or uber challenging (gradual climbs). You can get in some good distance and thankfully it is a loop. We will be going back there often because it is fairly close to Boulder. I'm anxious to ride the loop counter-clockwise and do the start from the Mayhem Gulch Trail. I will post additional reviews when this happens.
Singlespeed note: I rode my singlespeed on this ride (32x19) without any issues. I would even go as far as fully ridged.
Recommended Route: Not known yet...
Other recommended trails in the same area: White Ranch
