Green Mountain Park

Lots of extremely firm hardpack loops are possible by linking the Green Mountain Trail with the Utah Trail. Be wary of loose gravel and boulders, though. And despite the gentle nature of most trails, some can get surprisingly steep and technical.
Also be wary of the fire road. It's steep and covered with gravel, so only attempt it if you like tough climbs.
There are three main parking areas, and several lesser parking areas. Two of the main ones are located near each other on Alameda Parkway on the east side of the mountain, while the other is on the other side. It's easy to see from C-470, but kind of hard to find. Check a map.
Recommended Route: The new Rooney trail heading up the southwest side of Green Mountain is an excellent trail. Kudos to the group who constructed this thing. As much fun to ascend it as to come down it!

Summary: To all you who think green mountain is boring, well, yes if you ride all the c-rap trails that are over-ridden with millions of tons of loose rocks on them. YOU'RE RIDING THE WRONG TRAILS! There is One trail in perticular that will rock your socks. By the way i literally sacrificed my right sole (shoe) and spent a couple of hours the last 2 days kicking the s to the hit out of this trail to move all the loose rocks from its so beautiful surface. What's left is a trail that resembles Joe's Ridge in vegetablea - a teary fast rolling topotheridge trail with steeps and whatnot. Prolly even better cause its longer. Keep it single. I love this trail. best on green roundain. anyways i NEVER see any bikers with the ballz to ride this awesome trail they always ride some weak sauce. so i so sacrificingly sacrificed my time to make it even better and to type this so unselfishly shmelfishly for YOU! Ride it chump
Recommended Route: up to the top the best way you can think of, then ride north along the top. the ridge is the one farthest north and it heads east. now tell me if im wrong
Other recommended trails in the same area: trails where you have to take a trip to see them?

Summary: This is my backyard, so I ride it alot.. VG non-technical ride, a decent climb thats easy to do w/o unclipping. A great beginners ride, training ride, fast downhill.. Lots of loose baby sculls.. Lot of flowers, birds, and deer. No trees/shade, occational glimzes of Coyotes, skunk, rattlers. Great view of the city and front range mountains.
Recommended Route: Hayden Trail up past the antenna tower, fire road to the summit, rt at the first switch and follow the singletrack left, down to where it rejoins the road. Take either the singletrack a few hundred ft down to the left, or stay on the rd to where the bridge crosses C470 and take that single track left.. Either way, the trails rejoin, follow it around the flank of the mnt back to where you parked for a nice loop.
For a longer ride, GM can be coupled with Dakota Ridge, Matthews-Winters/Red Rocks trails.
Avoid GM on weekends and between 5-7 on weekdays as it gets very crowded.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Dakota Ridge for Technical, Mt Falcon or Bergen Pk for climbing, Waterton canyon for beginner, Deer creek for all-around fun.

Summary: the wide rode sucks, excluding the fire road, on which you can get a workout going up and haul about 40 on the way down. If you like blazing down hill or steep descents there are a few cool trails going down the east side of g.mountain. It would bore an advanced rider if you stuck to the road.
Recommended Route: For a little different, take 6 to simms, turn on 2nd street and drive up to the traffic circle and turn up the hill. The trail starts right before the dirt lot about 50 yards from the trafic circle on the left. Ride this trail 300 yrds past the red gate and you'll be able to find your way from there. Not that great, but hey, it's green mountain.

Summary: ONE WORD: BORING! It is as boring as riding the top of South Table Mountain in Golden. Although this trail is extremely boring and not challenging, it may be cool at night or when you can't do those other MTN areas with snow cover or if you're with a beginer or your GF. I would stay away from this trail as it is as boring as road biking, but if you take the fire road up to the top, then it is a good aerobic workout. Scenary kinda sucks with no trees or anything either.
HOWEVER, when I did this, one time it started to HAIL on me and thuderstorms came in. EVERYTHING was muddy and the singletrack was slick with mud. Although the trail sucks, the conditions made it alittle fun for me. If you want a fun ride, wait until the afternoon thunderstorms roll in and then go biking.
I think this trail closes at 10pm so try to avoid breaking rules....
Recommended Route: Counterclockwise unless you have a stick up your ass, in which case go up the fire road to the top for a nice aerobic workout.
Other recommended trails in the same area: white ranch, apex, dakota ridge
