Ridden Trail: Once a month

Cross Country Rider Summary: The previous rider mentioned a rocky downhill ... well, that is now a closed portion of the trail due to "erosion" ... it's fenced off ... oh well, one can still find some small climbs on dirt or sidewalk in that same area, but it's just not the same ... I live just off the trail, so I ride this maybe once per month after work ... it's an ok workout if you push yourself ... there is a fee ($5.00, I think), so you may want to park close by and take your bike in to avoid this Recommended Route: Just explore the different trails in the park Other recommended trails in the same area: Lair O' the Bear, Mt. Falcon, Green Mountain

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Cross Country Rider Summary: Nice single track, some obstacles, a nice ride during the week. For the most part the trails loop around Bear Creek Lake offering some small crossings of streams, nice little trench jumps and some fun little downhills as well as climbs. There is a pretty wicked downhill switchback if you go to the top of the big hill over looking the park. Other loops ride throughout Homestead Golf Course on a paved surface. This is a great place to ride if you don't have the time during the week to really get away. Recommended Route: Climb to the top of the Big Hill overlooking the park. Approach the scenic overlooking on the lake. On the Northside of that you will find the wicked downhill. Would suggest you have a helment on and be with a friend... it gets pretty rocky and fast. Hang on tight and don't look back... Other recommended trails in the same area: Lair of the Bear just up the road a few miles.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a great trail for regular training, but there's not alot of climbing unless you yo-yo the hills near the dam at the southeast corner of the lake. It's an excellent trail for beginners because there is a paved trail that parallels all of the single track. Generally, the trails closest to the stream are the most difficult and offer the best single track. Because it's relatively flat, you can maintain a pretty good pace. This makes the single relatively fast (13-18 MPH for most).
There are numerous places where BMX'rs have built kickers to challenge your jumping abilities, and there are several small to major stream crossings along the way. You can also hit the pavement to use bridges to cross the streams. Lately, I've seen log obstacles constructed in various areas as well. The best trails are the horse trails inside the tree canopy, making it a good ride when the sun is blazing. Scenery is great along the river, you forget you are in the city. Recommended Route: If you drive into Bear Creek Lake park, you will pay a fee. The best place to start is the park at roughly 3000 south Estes Street in Lakewood. From here you can follow the concrete trail east or west, just look for the horse trails that start at various points along the trail. The best single track is along both sides of the creek between Kipling Parkway to the West and Sheridan Federal Boulevard to the East. These points are about 5 miles apart. For emergencys, Mojo Wheels is a great bike shop located along the north side of the creek at Sheridan Boulevard. Ther are also some good trails on the North side of the creek between C-470 and Bear Creek Lake. Other recommended trails in the same area: Green Mountain, Mathews Winters

, from Winter Park Summary: Rode the Coyote Crossing Trail (think that's what it's called) and I wasn't real impressed. Little or no downhill and nothing in the way of rollers or nice burms to carry your speed through the turns. BUT... it is an excellent trail to loop once or twice to simply elevate your heart rate doing some short climbs. Honestly, if the trail was not flagged, I'm fairly certain you'll take a diferent route every time. Other recommended trails in the same area: Waterton Canyon, Green Mtn., Matthews Winters, Hogback Ridge
